In general, I am a fan of seasoning onions. Underrated cooking technique. Good call to do it for the beans.

I've started using zing-zing also because unlike Clamato, it doesn't have high fructose corn syrup if that's something you care about.

Next time I will brown the bacon first before cooking the onions. I found it didn't work very well per the original instructions.

Tried something new this past weekend for the LSU game. Don't crucify me if it's sacrilegious…
Wife and I shoot a couple deer and buy some beef each year and make our own ground meat. 50/50 deer/beef. I threw a pound of our ground meat mix into the beans and it was awesome. Wife commented that it makes it feel like more of a complete meal.
I love the beans either way. We make them a dozen times a year. Will continue to add our ground meat mix into the recipe.

Next time try some venison chorizo in it. So many way to make these into a meal on their own.

You have to search under "doing it the hard way" to find it.
J/k, it is on the first page of this thread: https://texags.com/forums/34/topics/1394477/replies/19548387

My boys have some unique food allergies and can't have beans from a can. We always have to use dry beans. Will just have to adapt it.

Is substituting bloody mary mix instead of chlamato juice okay? Not crazy about the MSG and HFC in chlamato juice.

Making tomorrow. What size are the "large" cans?
