Is anybody else getting a certain vibe about this whole thing? Maybe it's just me.

Rules on our ranch……

1. Don't shoot anyone.

2. Leave all gates how you found them.

3. Manage the herd as best you can.

4. Have fun. That's what getting outdoors is all about.

5. Just in case you aren't very smart, if you do anything that anyone with common sense would know is not right, then you will receive a tongue lashing at minimum and could be removed depending on severity. We are all adults and either trust each other or not to have a bunch of dumb rules.

That is the way it was in the 80s and 90s around Sonora.
Gates are important and don't rut up the roads if it is wet.
Let little deer grow for another year.

I guess that California is having an influence in Texas sooner than I thought.

Damn….you oughta just collect money and ship out a mount and some meat. That way, nobody breaks one of the way-too-many rules.

Yeah you pay for the meat and the mount.

But sometimes there won't be a mount. Gotta pass the yardstick test you know. Confiscated.

Great read, and so many here clearly have caught onto the game / ponzi scheme of this arrangement. Great for those at the top of the pyramid and the old timers, and total crap for the newbie that has to "earn his place" and likely paying way more than the "old timers".

I have been on a similar lease, although not nearly as rigid and still felt like like is was walking on egg shells many times (but no where near what this would cause). Constantly wondering if I was going to shoot a deer that is going to piss off others to the point of almost ruining the enjoyment at times.

And as some have pointed out, no doubt old timers will have dibs on deer that you aren't allowed to shoot because "that deer lives at my stand, you cant shoot it". Or, they will flat out sell a hunt for the deer and you'll never hear about it or see it again.

And this is why you apply for western hunts, raffle hunts, buy OTC tags, etc.

Way way way more enjoyment than playing the middle school lunch room version of deer hunting.

I think that I'm a girl whose avid hunting and fishing family is from South Texas and I'm still trying to figure out how Frick and Frack think they can confiscate a hunters tagged deer and make it out alive.

Catching gullible/inexperienced hunters that are uninformed to the law.

I just got on here to check out deer lease postings. Interesting comments to a guy looking to fill spots on a trophy deer lease. I took some time to read the rules posted and I did not see anything that had anything to do with breaking the law. The quote is here. It says you will likely be asked to leave the antlers.
"If you do not follow the approval process then we have nothing other to go by but teeth. If the teeth show less than 7.5 you will likely be asked to leave the antlers and not return to the ranch. Post approved deer on GroupMe. This allows for anyone with history to chime in. This will help identify bucks others have chosen to let grow because of age"

It seems to me these rules and the process for approval are put in place to encourage all hunters to share pictures so that trophy deer can reach the age of 7 before taking as a trophy. Hats off to anyone who can get a good class of 7 year olds. This allows the best genetics to stay in the heard for an extra year or 2 of breeding. Certainly good management to keep good genes in the heard longer.

Hats off to the guy for taking the High Road. Great Example.

Forgive me if I keep my hat on for a guy who is pretty likely to be scamming people by charging them to pay the bills on a lease that is likely to be selling the best deer to outside hunters.

Interesting speculation with no facts to back it up. Seems like a common denominator with all social media. Where is Biden's ministry of misinformation. Just kidding, maybe you are right, I just don't know why you would speculate that.

Rookie posters coming in and trying to sell something around here with no ag tags don't usually get the benefit of the doubt. Especially when they try to keep all the details secret (I.e. pm me for details), and those details point to somebody else taking all the best deer on the lease while the lease holders have to get permission to shoot anything under penalty of having it confiscated in violation of state game laws. The red flag for me was the requirement to schedule ahead of time which days you would be on the lease and the statement that you would likely not be given permission to shoot anything bigger than a 10 pt. Those two combined with the bizarre requirements to get permission to shoot anything from a group of 3 guys and couldn't contact the landowner suggests to me that they are using the lease hunters to pattern the best deer and to sell the hunts of those deer to outsiders on weekends when they won't be in their stands.

I find it 'interesting' that OP edited his original post three times, and is now saying spots are filled and is blaming anonymity for the comments not their business model. A good business would take the 4 pages of comments as feedback on their approach. Seems like they clearly have a fixed mindset which is not oriented towards customer satisfaction or improving their business over time.

OH wow, did you ever walk into the wrong room and open your mouth....

You still don't have the authority to confiscate antlers, or anything else on a deer. You do not own the deer on the property. Before, or after he's tagged.

Rookie posts on the wrong side of history. Good luck with your scam.

Spots filled. Interesting watching opinions guarded behind the security of social media. Lot's of misinformation out there and this forum is no exception. We appreciate all the positive emails received and the few posted here. Good luck all.
Also, no one is hiding behind social media in here, Junior.

A LOT of us know each other, do business with each other, buy stuff from each other, donate money to each others kids projects, show up at funerals and so on.

Go pull this scam somewhere else.

Hi Brad, Jerry and Mitch!

Reminds me of Dickie Bateman from Harper Texas.
Back in the day, I joined some clients on a lease in Harper. This property had a similar 'call 24 hours before your hunt' rule. Turns out good ol Dickie was day hunting others from my group's s stands. I wish I could have been there when my buddies caught Dickie in the act but I was tagged out after the only 2 trips I could make to the lease.

Here's how it went down….Matt and Lance show up unannounced and ask Dickie's wife where he is. I'm told the look on her face was priceless. They proceeded into the pasture and sure enough Dickie had a paid day hunter sitting in Matt's blind.

I never joined another lease and this prompted my interest in hunting Western States big game. So in a round about way, I can thank guys like this for the Muleys on my wall.

It wouldn't be a very effective scam if they took your advice. We just need some outdoors board poster to try and setup a day hunt at this place to prove all our suspicions true.

I'm trying to figure out if this thread is serious or a joke. Much of the comments seem like an MSNBC reporter was sent to a ranch owned by Trump then wrote about it. Some seem to be taking it way to seriously and it appears I hit a nerve with O.J. It seems like if people were taking it seriously, they would have actually read the rules posted by the guy and not open themselves up to needed corrections such as:
1. As mentioned before, the rules I saw posted don't say anything about confiscating antlers, but don't let facts get in the way of a good story. It is not illegal to ask someone to leave antlers. See #2 below
2. On an MLD ranch, the tag goes with the meat. It is perfectly ok to separate the two. TPWD website for education.
3. Some dude went off on a tangent speculating that the landowner or managers were selling hunts when paid hunters were not there. He/she came to that conclusion by his/her interpretation of the rules, much like an MSNBC reporter looking for something regardless of the facts. It is like that guy came right from the Johnny Depp trial. Objection your honor, speculation, and hearsay. If he is on a place where that is being done, it sux for him but to speculate such based on nothing is bad bull.
Feel free to put up these things called game cameras; they even have them with cellular capability. A very easy way to prove nefarious action. Surely you see what is happening on the southern border. Notifying who is on a ranch in deep south Texas on a group app actually seems like a great idea. There is a lot that can go wrong.
4. Well, I had another one to point out, but I am laughing so hard I can't remember what it was and besides, I need to save something in case I return.

There is enough in the rules to go after without lying or misrepresenting, just thought I would point that out.
I had no idea this forum, or at least this thread was a place to ridicule fellow Aggies, but maybe it is all in good fun. Either way, put me in coach, I'm ready to play. Maybe I'll check back in a couple of weeks, poke the bear, and have a little more fun with you guys and your club. Something tells me this would be a much different conversation in person. HMMMM. Fire away, I'll stick to the facts, and mix in a little humor on the middle road.
