Sunriver is great and honestly can find some airbnbs decently priced.

Good luck at Bach! Couple buddies were up there today and said conditions were awesome but incredibly crowded.

Daughter is at WP and conditions are amazing. Hearing steamboat is similar. SS has had 26" in 7 days and expecting another foot over the next 7.

WP pic from daughter. Of the conditions.

Need some guidance. Last year we did Keystone and got caught in a -20F blizzard. It was horrible. But the 1/2 day of ski lessons the kids got they enjoyed. So hoping to get another season out of the kids ski clothes we want to try again.

We can only make a trip during spring break, March 8-16. Looking at New Mexico and lower elevation than Keystone. Is Ruidoso too far south for that time of year? Is Anglefire a better bet? Are there other places to consider? Kids are 5 and 7.

Super vague, my dude. None of us can guarantee a blizzard-less experience.

Are you wanting to maximize the week skiing? Or just keep them in 1/2 lessons? Anything you want outside of skiing? Budget? Flying, driving - do you have a major airport with lots of routes?

There's endless options - more so if you're open to BC/AB in Canada.

That said, Silver in N Idaho has an indoor water park. That's a guarantee if snow fun bombs for you. We're off to Sunriver, OR tomorrow. We ski Bachelor, then play at the Cove (indoor swim park) all evening. 6 year olds favorite destination on earth. Cute little downtown where we grab dinner, ice cream and ice skate.

Not sure how I am being vague. I am asking for recommendations for skiing in NM over spring break. I mentioned the only time we tried a skiing trip was last year at Keystone and got caught in a blizzard, it was super cold, most of the plans got canceled, wife got altitude sickness. It was a miserable trip but we want to try again. I want to try and keep to lower elevation bases to help the wife.

At no time did I ask for anything outside of New Mexico. As for how I get there, what I do there, or what my budget is, that is irrelevant for this conversation.

Maybe there are no good options in NM for my criteria and that is a suitable answer.

Gonna be cold as hell at WP tomorrow.

I've skied in -30windchill before there. Not fun. Truly tests your gear.

If you really want to ski, New Mexico sucks. Taos, maybe. But snow is always dicey there, especially in March.

If you're not that serious about skiing, do 2-3 days at Angelfire or Red River.

Also, PS, altitude is still pretty damn high. You need altitude for snow, especially in the Rockies.

Lower altitude? Go to Whistler or Heavenly. Top of Whistler is 7,165ft. Top of Heavenly is 10k. You're sleeping at about 10k in summit county.

Top of red river is 10,315.

Just got back from the 'Boat. Amazing skiing. Base not as deep as most years by this time, but been getting accumulation everyday lately. Kids and I stayed mostly in the trees to stay away from the crowds.

Did you fly last time or drive?

Altitude sickness is usually from lack of preparedness. Hydrate like a motherfker and stay away from caffeine and stuff day 1.

Use humidifier (most mountain rentals have multiple ones) and get a good night sleep.

Kids ski free at keystone. I'd stick with that. Also, you should give it a go.

For the record, I thought your request was a little vague too in light of your relation to the previous experience.

We love angel fire. Haters going hate. Close enough and will be cold and snowy during spring break this year I predict. Late winter.

If you can ski black runs I would encourage you to hike up and ski East Face. It's actually not that difficult and there are some really beautiful views looking back up at those double black runs. Do it on a clear day.

Will do next year, since we just got back. Probably with my oldest or just my older two. The youngest had a tough enough time with the Biscuits, Gravy, Hot Cakes area!

We have no clue how we'd snowboard all day then go from hot tubs to concerts then wake up and do it all over again for 4 days straight.

Ha I last did it over a decade ago which would put me in my late 20s. I'm sure it'd test me a lot differently now. I just remember the magical time of combining two of my passions in one trip back then.

On a side note was talking with Josh Grider after he played a set at Gruene opening for Max Stalling the other night and was mentioning how excited he was to get back up there to play the Music Fest as well. I was telling him that the snow reports were looking pretty solid.

I'm a Ruidoso resident and Ski Apache season pass holder - I would strongly recommend against booking a spring break trip here at the moment. Spring break is pretty iffy here on a normal year, but conditions are exceptionally awful right now and nothing really promising storm wise on the horizon. Unless there is some major help from mother nature there is going to be very limited terrain open at spring break, not worth the money or dealing with the crowds on whatever handful of runs they are throwing artificial snow down on. Northern New Mexico is in a little better shape but that isn't saying much. I'd reevaluate in mid to late Feb if you are flexible.

I'd just drive the extra few hours to Purgatory. It's a way better mountain than anywhere in NM except maybe Taos on a good snow year. Kids ski free, Lift tickets are very reasonable and it's not that high in elevation. The base is 8800 and the peak is 10800.

If you really want a low elevation resort you can go to Alyeska in Alaska. The base is at 250ft and the peak is almost 4k. I've never been but my wife also gets severe altitude sickness so It's crossed my mind to go up there. Flights to Anchorage are pretty reasonable.

It's about 5 hours from AF to Purg. So, not really that close and you'd be driving past WC to get there.

WC is the closest to NM

But if you are coming up from Houston or DFW it is only like a 3hr difference from Angle Fire to Purgatory. I'd gladly drive that extra 3hrs to get to a better hill.

Any recommendations for boot and ski rentals in Telluride? Will be our first time there and trying to figure out where to rent the best gear. Looks like options are relatively limited. Christy's or Black Tie seem to be most common.

Also might dive in and buy boots this year. Recs in Telluride or Park City? Will be skiing at both this year. Also travel to Denver for work if there's a good shop there.

"Looking at NM AND lower elevation then Key."

I read that as anything with less chance of cold and windy / lower elevation anywhere. Just want a good ski experience.

If you're at all getting a plane for this, do not go to NM.

Since altitude sickness is in play, seriously ponder Whistler. It's world class everything on and off the hill; world class ski school; something for everyone; and the base as at only 2k'!!! Much easier to acclimate.

If it were me, I'd drive to Glenwood Springs and stay there. Adventure Park/Caves, Hot Springs, cute Downtown that's decorated for Christmas and if you stay up 3-10 mile or up towards redstone you're in the mountains with a great view of Sopris. If you stay in town, you're a 30-40 minute drive to Snowmass and 10-15 minutes from Sunlight.

Itll be more affordable, there's a decent amount to do, and you're at like 5,500-6,500ft.

Beautiful area. I've caught a lot of big trout with Mt Sopris in the background. And that spot I catch them is fishable year round.

Got three vouchers for free skiing at Bachelor today. My buddy got stuck on the NW lift and that's what they gave him. Luckily he's giving them to me.

I might have missed it, but anyone here ski with eye correction? Glasses or contacts? What works, what doesn't? My astigmatism is slowly getting worse and is like to be able to see as clearly as possible what I am skiing into.

I skied with glasses under my goggles for years. They usually fog up going up the first lift of the day, wait a few minutes for them to clear and no issues the rest of the day.

I have contacts now and have no problems.
