Anyone been to Montana yet this year? Just booked Whitefish again for the fourth straight year March 6-10.

We're going 1/29-2/3.

Last had heard chair 2 was broken and chair 9 was not open yet, that was around Xmas. I think they said chair 2 was supposed to "maybe" get fixed next week (week of 13th), and I would assume/hope they've gotten enough snow now to open 9.

Jimmy Carter gave me a ski day today. Ran up to Keystone for the day, not too bad, could still use a bit more snow, ran over a hidden log so looks like I'll be headed to shop when I get back home.
Stopped into steep which is right before the gondola in river run. I think they're new tenants in this spot but they actually make some damn good beer. Got their IPA and was actually pleasantly surprised.

FYI, Park City ski patrol was back on the mountain today in full force and they already opened 2 more lifts and about 20 trails today.
Snow conditions have been great, lots of soft groomers where they just opened and away from the main corridors. Even the main corridors are staying nice and soft into the afternoons, just a little bumpy but no ice. No lift lines at all today.

Also, did a "group" lesson today and it was just me and one other guy with the instructor in the most advanced intermediate group lesson. Great lesson on some of the steepest blue groomers on the mountain and even got into a couple of mogul runs at the end which was a bit terrifying but I ended up really enjoying. I highly recommend lessons on every trip!

Friggin apple map suggested we bypass Amarillo and go through Clovis to avoid winter storm. We just spent 4+ hours going through the hardest winter driving conditions I have ever seen. Total white out at times. Thought for sure we were going to be stranded on the side of the road with my family, but the good Lord helped us out. Raton pass is closed and we need a rest anyway.

No way I'm going to New Mexico. The less time you're there the better. Their roads are crap and I feel like the less time you're in that plain, the better. Less snow drift.

I feel like they take care of the ports to plains corridor (287/87) really well.

We were driving up one year and it was closed from Clayton to Raton. My stubborn ass dad said eff it, we're driving to Springer instead. That stretch on 412 is one desolate piece of road.

Ski Apache picked up a very much needed foot of snow today. First decent storm in these parts since mid-November.

Used to live in Farmington, NM and drove back to central Tx for many holidays. The snow drifts and blizzard conditions are the worst driving conditions I've ever had!

It's the mountains. Honestly as long as you arent driving drunk, the local cops usually really chill.

The old Vail Pd Chief was one of my yoga cliente and hed always say "they don't want to be doing it either". I think they realized this guy had enough in his plate and didn't need more. It's pretty funny too.

The thing is, I'm not sure he wasn't hammered. The guy says in the video it happened the night before. My bet is he was drunk, got stuck, and then he/his friends said let's leave it until the morning when I'm sober.

But yeah, as far as the cops can determine, it was "just a Siri accident".

In the dark when there's snow on all the surfaces and you can't tell one open area from another, I could see it.

Or high. Seems to be quite the drug culture in those mountain resort towns.

Haven't had time to read through much of this years thread, but have a question. We were going to skip skiiing this year for various reasons but now 2nd guessing that. Have 10 and 12 year old boys that finally took off a bit last year skiing wise and hate to miss a year.

Having said all of that, the question is where is the cheapest/easiest place to fly into for a quick 2 or 3 day ski trip? Closest airport is Austin, but could get to Dallas or Houston also.

Thanks!

Cheapest? If you're getting on a plane no matter what that's Whitefish I'd guess. Single day pass $110 for adults and $89 for kids 12 and under. If you book lodging through the mountain it's another 20% off that

Kalispell

Makes it tough for a super quick weekend. Don't think there are any direct flights from Texas so you're connecting through slc or Denver. Tough for a 2/3 day trip.

I'd say one of the salt lake hills would be easiest.

Cheapest id figure would be monarch (COS) or el dora, cooper or granby (DIA). But I'm sure I'm missing something.

I thought United had a direct to IAH from there but I might be remembering wrong. I come in from MSP.

Forgot about Granby.

I don't really want to see more people, but Schweitzer is really not a bad drive from Spokane. It's about an hour drive to Sandpoint and another 20 minutes up the mountain. They've got lodging in the village.

I'm equidistant between Spokane, Missoula, and Kalispell, so very familiar with the airports. Spokane is always significantly cheaper to fly through than Kalispell.

I believe there are direct flights from GEG to Dallas on Southwest and American.
Pahdz

Yeah weird because it shows AA from Dallas arriving tomorrow at 10am but just realized it's a charter flight number. Maybe they don't have one?
