You still hunting Thunderbird? Our spot near Markham is vastly different this year - 30 acres of millet instead of 200 acres of rice. Been predictably slower.... just hoping the birds show up eventually.

Yes sir and our northern ponds, near Markham, are pretty slow right now. Birds are all down by the coast.

Aransas Pass was super slow Sat/Sunday. Hoping that this front pushes a bunch more birds down.

Whistlers or fulvous?

That pic has a Black-Belly Whistling duck so assume it's those. I did see about 10-12 Fulvous whistling ducks on Saturday. They're still down here too, which is pretty rare (this time of year).

Know someone that shot 3 fulvous in Bell county a few days ago. Never heard of one that far from the coast.

Only place ive ever gotten them was Sabine NWR.

Saw a bunch of black bellys super high and hauling butt south, after the front yesterday.

Yep black bellies.

I'm out of town but know some guys going out in the morning. It sounds like a bunch of Pintail and Gadwall showed up with this front.

They've already been doing this. We received some intel in the past about avoiding a specific sex and species of duck due to a GPS bird being in the area.

I'm sure there are wingshots who can look at a flight of ducks in dim light and avoid the hen gadwall.

I sure ain't one of them....

It was actually a pintail, but your point stands. Only way to truly avoid that is just shoot teal for the first 10 mins of shooting light or only shoot big sucks that have white on them or giant bills when they're on the water lol

Where are the ducks? Hunted Thanksgiving morning out at Lake Somerville,and the only birds we saw were teal. Didn't even get a shot off. Went back Saturday morning and had almost the same result. We did shoot a couple of greenwings, and of course missed a few.

I would have thought with the last couple of fronts, and some crappy weather, some bigger birds would start to show up. Anyone seeing any ducks start to show up?

Mostly teal the first split but pintail in big numbers showed up week of Thanksgiving. Saw a few gadwalls, spoonies, and Widgeon. Hunt with guys that shot a few cans too.

Since it is the split, the only thing I have to go on right now is around the house and I have started seeing blue bills and other divers in our neighborhood ponds which usually is a good sign. I bet they're going to stack down here after it freezes everywhere north of the red river this week, or at least I hope they do… I'll be out Saturday morning.
