I know a guy that guides there that I used to hunt with but I haven't talked to him in a while.

Just looking for opinions on their club side of things.

pretty sure that's where my cousins/uncle are or were. If it is, they've been there a while

Any of y'all familiar with Pintail Hunting Club based out of Garwood?

Lance, who owns Pintail, is a sponsor here on TexAgs. Good guy and runs a good outfit.

I didn't know they had a club membership.

Could be wrong but thought they did.

Not a bunch of birds this weekend but still had good hunts. Shot 3 short of our limit Saturday and 6 short of our limit this morning. Shot geese both days too. Hoping this front brings them down!

Saw a lot more birds yesterday than we have past few weeks hunting public land. Still think GWT drakes are one of my favorite birds.

This one was perfect and brought him down with 1 or 2 pellets to the breast so still very much intact. A buddy of mine is teaching himself how to mount birds so figured I'd let him practice with this one. Just reimbursing for materials and I get my first piece of wall art.

Best cold front of the season. Kansas got absolutely pounded with blizzard conditions today. Single digits next three nights in northern Oklahoma.

Got a couple guys hunting my blind on the river in the morning and I'm heading north early with a truck full of firewood. propane, and bourbon. Plan is to hit rivers for a few days while everything else is locked up. Then maybe back to lakes as stuff starts to thaw.

Anybody else got high hopes for this weeks weather?

hunting Friday morning near Garwood - hope this pushes even more ducks there. And just got a photo reminder that a little over a year ago I was in the blind there when it was 18 degrees that morning (or something like that). Pond kept freezing over so the boys had to go out and break the ice so the ducks would land.

One of my favorite hunts was in December 2022 when it was 13-14 on the coast. Had to break ice with Rangers and then smashed a limit really quickly because there was no open water. Glad that hunted ended fast cause it was damn cold.

Not 100% correct. Lance runs it for the money man (I can never remember his name). Dude who brought up ALOT of land between Garwood and Eagle Lake; big tracts of Winterman/Duncan land in Eagle Lake area.

And last I heard, they don't have club memberships, just day hunts for ducks and cranes.

As far as the season, its just way down. A buddy is on Blessing and they had limits about every hunt last year and this year its really bad.

Was there any rice on those properties this year? With irrigation water not available to many rice farms, birds won't stay in the area long between cold fronts like they did before. And with fewer acres overall in the area, hunted fields have more pressure with fewer roost areas. This has been our experience on the East side for years now having drastically fewer acres of rice and flooded harvested fields.

We're members of Riceland. We generally have decent water. Think we're way over hunted for the members to blind ratio. The club ownership got sideways with one of the property owners for one of the biggest and best leases they historically had right before the season and we lost access to it.

All in all, weather has sucked for migration this year and my group wants to look around at other clubs.

My co-worker is on that lease, do you know a Nick D? He said its been pretty slow. What tract of land did Pruitt lose?

Name doesn't ring a bell but don't really know anyone outside of our group.

Believe it was Dixon property

Got out there at 10:45 this morning and watched two flocks land as we were walking up. Didn't shoot until 12:30. Left at 3:30 with 11. Passed a ton of juvie and hen goldeneye.

Didn't see 40 birds total. Rivers are 2/3rds frozen. Cant be anything left to the north of us.

Going to hit it at shooting time in the morning. Supposed to be a balmy 10*. My buddy says that's twice as hot as today.

So I put a cellular game cam on a T post out in the water. It's way more fun than watching deer.

Looks pretty cool.

i assume this is private? where in Ok? i ask as we have a river in SE oklahoma but i don't see many ducks. a few on our pond but not many on river that i see.

Its public but I'll be honest, it's A LOT harder than it used to be. First trip up here years ago, we ran the boat a mile, found thousands of birds, and shot 45 green heads over the next three days without seeing a person. Yesterday, that same spot had excellent habitat but no birds and two groups of hunters setup at 2pm on a Wednesday.

As far as rivers, we've looked at a bunch of water this week with no birds. Some areas just seem better than others.

possible. it's mostly thick woods though so idk about where they would feed.

Decent morning near Garwood. Ended up with 20, but had the chance for a six man limit if we shot better!

It was nice. North end of a gravel pit so we were out of the wind. Wasn't too cold out of the wind. Just a little treacherous getting down to the bank after the rain last night.

My son got to experience his first coastal duck hunt over the weekend near seadrift. He had a blast and it's unreal the amount of birds we saw flying. He's 11 and this is his second season duck hunting and he is hooked. Practices on his duck calls every day and watches duck hunting on you tube before bed.
