Beavers are destroying the land behind me by damming up a couple culverts. I can break the dam and they build it back overnight. Have already trapped one on a foot trap with beaver musk. Have a few 330 traps on the way as well. Any advice on how to eradicate these *******s?

Get some beaver castor from out of state so you can lure the big males in. I was in a trapper website years ago and picked some up and did some real damage to beavers on the Leon River a while back. I used the 330's and Victor 1.75's in slides into the creeks and river.

Take the castor glands from the one you caught and use on a mud mound just out of the water and put your foothold in the water in front of it. I had to go to MB 750s because they were pulling out of smaller traps. 330s work also in the right situation. Put one on each side of a break you put in the dam. They will attempt to repair it and you may get lucky.

Once trapped, their behavioral patterns begin to change.

Put some of these out to lure them in

I have had good luck with the 330's outside of their lodge. I have used vertical sticks in the mud to make a fence and funnel them into the 330 set.

Just went through this with several cutting down my fruit trees and tunneling in my pond dam. Didn't want to use traps because my dog is always wading in the pond. Finally invested in a new AR15, thermal scope, and suppressor. A few nights at the pond and I eliminated the 3 beaver family.
Wife was so mad at them destroying her trees she was all in on my "necessary" investments. Win-Win!

Since you know they will immediately come to repair the dam as you break it, I would set several 330s where you think they will approach from to repair the dam. Using guide sticks to reduce the area they have to swim in helps. It doesn't have to be an actual fence, just enough to guide them through were you have a 330 set. Diving sticks can help as well. They are on a mission to repair it, I would not worry with castor or lure in this situation.

Also, 330s eliminate all the fuss with having to try to drown the beaver.

It might take awhile but when you have beavers readily coming to do dam repairs, you should be able to catch them all.

The problem is the road with the culverts has a fair amount of foot traffic and dogs off leash. It's a dirt road out to a park. The one we got was up in the swamp on a mound with some scent on it so maybe that's the ticket.

I have a buddy with this set up but I also have a 4 week old baby at home so spending a significant part of when I can sleep in a swamp isn't ideal right now. He won't do it on his own since he has no excuse to be there. At least I can say the water is backing up on my property even through the dams aren't on it.

What did you do with the fur?

"No license is required if nuisance furbearers are taken while causing loss or damage to agricultural crops, livestock, poultry, or personal property. However, such animals or their pelts may NOT be possessed or sold."

Or

"A person who possesses a hunting license may take a fur-bearing animal (furbearer), provided the furbearer (or any part thereof) is not to be sold or exchanged for anything of value. There is no bag or possession limit on furbearers. A trapper's license is required for the take of furbearers for the sale of pelts and/or carcasses."

Left for the coyotes who hauled it off

I hate it when the beaver dams up. I find that cleaning up and providing a nice meal with good conversation typically relaxes the beaver enough that you can then do whatever you need to do

In the words of Mrs. Cleaver "Ward weren't you a little hard on the beaver today"

My FIL had this same issue in ETX and they became a problem. He was able to have the local extension agent come out and handle all the trapping for him. I would call your local office and they will do a good job in supporting you and running lines

I have nothing to add other than Steve Rinella swears Beaver tail can be delicious when prepared properly.....and on the last season of Alone I watched, everyone who killed and ate a beaver got giardia. Looked like a blast....

Beavers aren't federally protected animals.

I would be lying if I said I hadn't considered taking out a few at my place to protect my chickens though.

Beavers are becoming more widespread in Texas..especially in edge suburban/rural areas to the point over population in some areas.
There was an article on the increase of beavers in Texas I believe by Agri-Life (think where I saw it). Reason for proliferation? Less numbers of its once natural predators in areas in Texas…..wolves, bears, coyotes, bobcats and hawks.

We have them in Collin County, both beavers and otters. Our neighborhood has a golf course with tons of ponds and streams, don't see them often but see signs of both

Shooting a protected bird, totally the same as shooting a non-protected varmint.

Makes total sense right?
Shoot the protected bird that preys on the non protected varmints but then B&M about the damage the non protected varmints do.
