Saw these gals near Colowyo Mine on the way home from work. Had to be a few hundred up there. Enjoy!

Sorry for poor image quality. I was zoomed in as far as I could, as they were couple hundred yards away.

I had one experience like this while hunting. Of course we only had mule deer tags.

We crested a mesa to get on top to walk the cliff edges and glass down below for mule deer and there were several hundred elk up on top in one herd. Just grazing as if they were on their own private grass island.

Amazing to watch.

I hadn't elk hunted yet in my life (just mule deer) and thought to myself it couldn't be that hard if they did this.

I WAS WRONG.

I've had some pretty lucrative offers to move to Denver or Houston, but I like living out here. I see elk daily, bears weekly(unless it is winter) and deer in my yard. I cannot imagine moving back to a hellhole of a large city.

Was daydreaming about fishing Marvine Creek and Trapper's Lake just the other day during ski trip at Copper.

Rangely = no thank you
Meeker = hells yes

Just wish Meeker was about an hour closer to Steamboat for easier skiing. I miss the simplicity of living out there. Well aside from traveling over Douglas Pass to Junction for groceries every other week.

I got 2 new trail horses this year and am really looking forward to fishing Marvine, Peltier, Bailey and Sable. Sable is my favorite right behind Marvine.

Hoyt....Back in Nov 2020 I had the opportunity to go elk hunting about half way between Rifle and Meeker on Hwy 13...The fourteen mile creek ran through this lady's ranch...I got my first ever elk - cow but really loved the scenery...The first night we drove into Meeker to eat at that old western hotel/restaurant...it's famous for something but my 58 year old brain can't remember what....Drove into Rifle one morning to eat at Shooters Grille and then the only other time we went to town was for the Aggie football game on Saturday night to watch us stomp a mudhole in South Carolina...That was an awesome time for the week or so that we spent out there at that ranch.

one of these days I will take you up on that offer. Right now I am locked to my house with my wife who has a terminal illness. When God calls her home then my life can get back to normal….but I sure wouldn't mind doing an elk hunt again.

I do not know you personally, but you have my utmost respect and prayers for your wife. If the time comes, I got your elk hunt ready and fly fishing too if interested.
