I have two old school green Curados that I want to respool with braid for bay fishing.
Any recommendations on brand and wt?

that's not a bad choice but Tarpon is a big ass fly fisherman who hates conventional gear!!
in all seriousness that's a good option. I have a couple greenies left too and on all of our gear we've been using suffix 832 for years. No complaints. We use it in the salt and in the timber on the lakes and it holds up great. we typically use 20-30 lb. Casts plenty far too no matter spinning or baitcasting. I will say this as a Shimano fan. I can cast it a good bit further with my curado DC than the greenies. Especially into any wind. It's just the newer technology
Just fill your spool with braid (suffix 832) and attached 3 ft of flourocarbon leader-line (25lb test) with an FJ knot.Scotty88 said:
Another question: Do you use backing? If so how much and type?
You know, I was going to originally include that Tarpon is a typical fly fishing snob....but you just showed that for everyone!!TarponChaser said:trip98 said:

I don't hate conventional gear, I'm just more evolved than a bait-chunking googan like yourself and prefer to fly fish.
Ask your boy why he's asked my boy about learning how to fly fish...
yes, any basic mono..10 lb is fine...don't need a whole lot on there. we usually put just a little more than covering the bottom of the spool and then enough out the rod tip to tie onto the braidScotty88 said:

I'm set on bait casters, what about the best braid for spinning rods/reels? Brand and pound?
My main spinner was rigged with braid for a few years and after 4-5 trips I'd get tangles/knots in the braid - total pain. I get it, it's a features of how the line peels of a spinning reel. It was so annoying I went back to mono. I'm sure it's just because I wasn't using the right braid.
