Alone is an interesting show, it's no joke, you either build a shelter and catch some food or your done. That one dude took out a musk oxen- pretty cool

Curious how this is going to work. Google earth search of the area and there's some type of road within a few miles of any spot I zoomed in on in the Karoo. Seems like a higher chance of encounters with people.
Water will definitely be a huge factor!

I went back and watched the first couple of seasons. I don't know if it was intentional casting, but there were some really weak contestants. One dude who left before the first night! And this was on Vancouver Island. I don't think it even snowed. I'm not saying it would be easy, but the later seasons were MUCH harsher locations.

Great start. Awesome variety of animals. Not gonna be the cold that takes them out this time. Gonna be inability to stay adequately hydrated and fed without catching water and food borne illnesses

I'm watching season 5 now. It's in Mongolia and all contestants from the first 4 seasons. Day 3 a girl has to tap b/c she imbedded a fishhook deep in her hand. Sucks b/c she lasted 86 days in season 3 before they extracted her for losing too much weight. She had only caught 6 fish in 86 days. She was catching them left and right in season 5 before getting hooked.

I hear what you're saying and I'm sure they all went in with the same attitude. I bet though that more than one who fall into this may be away from family like this for the first time or maybe the first time at this stage in their life. I know I used to enjoy doing a lot of my outdoor stuff solo when I was younger. And while I still do that occasionally, I just don't enjoy it the way I used to. More than once I've gotten a few days in and wished I had dialed the itinerary back a bit and brought my boys. It's a weird realization to come to, especially if it's something that you have wanted to do for a long time, and I suspect some on the show are facing that realization for the first time.

Two episodes in and two taps already. One guy got food poisoning (no surprise), and the other simply got depression.

The guy from Texas is kind of goofy but I won't be surprised if he makes it pretty far.

Idiot that decided his bowdrill skills were so good, he didn't need a ferro rod as one of his 10 items, then spent 2 days wearing himself out trying to start a fire. He won't be long for this competition

Also, depressed guy that went home made the classic mistake - don't conserve food, eat all you can as soon as you can. As the other player said about his dad's advice, your belly is the best and safest food storage spot you have. Honestly, I think the turn-off of that dumbass attempt at fishhead soup played a role in his mental spiral.

At the first sign of baboons, I would've been out of there. Wolves, bears, badgers I might try to stick it out until they become a nuisance. Baboons? Nope.

And the one lady who shot the warthog first episode is climbing my list of most annoying. And the guy that s**t himself....did he even eat anything by that point? Was it just regular travelers diarrhea? Hopefully he did more than filter his water through a bandana.

I assume he boiled, but the problem is that it is so incredibly easy to recontaminate or inadvertently expose yourself in some other way, especially when you can't really clean your hands or anything else that comes in contact with water. Just a few drops of contaminated water can be enough to have you spewing out of both ends with giardia or some other agent

Yeah, I expect an episode where one or more camps gets vandalized by baboons, or worse someone gets hurt by a baboon.

I felt really bad for the guy who's family back at base camp was having issues being there....he was killing it!

14 days in and half of them are already gone. The desert is taking its toll, although extended rain while only ready for desert conditions took one of them out - wet, cold, and old. This one won't turn into the absolute misery that the Canadian ones do, but it may actually end up a shorter season anyway

The chick with the big teeth has harvested more protein than anyone. I haven't seen any small mammals like rabbits on the show so apparently they will have to take down something large.
Dude building the stone house seems to have his head on straight. Uzbekistani by way of Canada is talking about the fam a bit much and may be the next to go.
I think it is over in 35 days.

Yeah, stone house guy is who I'd probably put my $$$ on for now. While it's not headed for Canadian cold, that shelter he's building should help him when the shorter days and more extreme cold kick in … as long as he doesn't expend so many calories building it.

I think the average low in June/July is basically freezing but can drop down to 15-20 degrees. So nothing like what they face in Canada. This one is much more of a dehydration battle

Btw, Alone Australia is worth checking out. Some chick who looks like she could be dracula's girlfriend beat a wallaby to death with a rock this week, then eats its liver raw. Hard core.
