Get vindaloo in whichever meat you like that they have.

We ate vindaloo frequently in Zambia

I don't have anything to add to this other than we built our house in 2020 and were some of the first to buy in the neighborhood. Within 18 months the buyers nearly all became Indian. Weirdest situation I've ever been part of. We bought at the right time but holy **** it's weird living in little india.

To bring things full circle, I don't eat Indian food anymore because they piss me off.

Which part of Sugarland?
I think I'm in the Sugarland of DFW. Northlake. We are going to gtfo here. No way in hell my kids are going to be in top 10%. My kids are playing soccer and football while their kids are in Code Ninjas and getting tutored until 10 PM.

Might want to avoid Southlake, Plano, Frisco, Allen, and McKinney.

Southlake is nowhere near as bad as my area. Some shaman must have professed Northlake as holy and they all moved here. It's crazy.

So I read this thread and was immediately in the mood for Indian food. I work out of town and show up to the restaurant by myself and thought I try something new. I order the vindaloo. Waitress looks at me and goes "That's the hottest dish we serve. You ok with that?"

<with my pride bristling> "Yeah of course I know that."

Took one bite with rice. Started sweatin immediately.

My pride is what helped me finish it. It was tasty but I will regret that decision.

Lots of vegetarian dishes. Healthy stuff.

Lots of unhealthy veg dishes, too. Most use lots of oil, coconut milk, and/or cream. None of which I am opposed to in reasonable quantities, but there is a reason diabetes is so prevalent in India.

Indian cuisine also depends what part of the country it comes from. My wife's family is from Northern India and having had a lot of those dishes, I thought I knew and liked all Indian food (except most of the desserts). But South Indian food is more tricky (for me anyway).

Agreed.

I've got a family member my marriage that is from northern India. They mostly eat vegetarian, and I'm surprised at how large their extended family is, and how high his cholesterol is in particular. He really struggles with his cholesterol and you wouldn't think that at a glance of his diet.

Look at the demographics of every school before you move if the Indian/Asian combo population of the school is over 9% your kid isn't making top 10%.

Move to San Saba or Cherokee.

This was my experience exactly about two years ago. Was convinced I didn't like Indian food and it's not my favorite but had someone ordering for the whole table and really enjoyed about 75% of it. Had the wife pick it up and bring it home to eat again a few days later.

It was nearly 100% white. Argyle ISD. Something happened in 2021 that made this a holy land. Now my neighborhood is nearly 80% indian. My 7 and 8 year old boys go to the brand new school in the area and it's about the same. We're looking to get out into the sticks. I don't care about school district rankings anymore after this debacle.

School district rankings don't matter. Move out to the sticks to a school with a mid level college readiness ranking.

It's nice raising your kids in nice burbs and sending them to highly rated public schools.. but there can be some downsides.

My oldest is going into his senior year having received one B ever- in Spanish 2 in 9th grade. He's had some AP and dual credit classes, but not all- mostly honors. Because of one B and not being in all AP, he's barely in the top 25% of his class in a large 6A hs. And his SAT is not great by today's standards: only a 1290.

It's crazy. Unless A&M cares about all the service organizations, job/work experience, and playing multiple sports, he's going to have to go somewhere crappy like Texas tech or try to get into A&M later via Blinn.

In a class of over 1,000, a couple hundred professional students, a lot which are of course Indian and Asian, ruin chances at the top 10% for a lot of good kids.

Hindsight is 20/20, but raising them in the sticks might have been the move.

Blinn TEAM or whatever other program they have, or A&M Galveston and then transfer.

Yeah, looking back, when I graduated high school, our top 10% was riddled with athletes. It's not like that anymore.

For those with kids in high performing schools I highly recommend going to A&M Galveston. My first did this.

Attendants are TRUE students of the main campus. They receive all the benefits of campus students including sports passes. They have regular bus transportation to games. They get the same student ID has campus kids. All the hours passed are acceptable to the campus earning a degree.

They can transfer to the main campus with 30 credit hours, basically their freshman year. You must have at 2.5 Gpa but some colleges like business or engineering do require higher numbers.

It's a small campus has just over 5000 students so smaller classes and almost all can get on site housing. So it helps moving from a small school that first 1-2 years.

Keep in mind the main campus has a significant dropout rate so transferring after a year is not guaranteed but pretty close

Well I apologize for completely hijacking this thread about Indian food (it is quite good!). Through talking with others randomly I have found that this has happened all over the state of Texas. High ranking school district, STEM programs, and .18 acre lots is apparently their Field of Dreams. They will definitely come...

When my daughter applied to Georgia Tech class rank had little to do with her acceptance. SAT, gpa, activities mattered and she got in. At SA Reagan she was in the top 25% with a 94 average. Got accepted into Purdue and A&M but we felt GT was a better fit for her. Only around 10,000 undergrads when she enrolled.

Probably makes me an *******, but I have a mental block against eating food from a culture where cleanliness seems to be way down the list of things that are valued. I'm sure it's great. Just can't do it. My kids went to Plano West. I can't even count how many times I've smelled BO that could peel the paint off the walls at different events.

Indian food is delicious, unless you are scared of seasoning, flavor, or spices you should be fine.
Indian Food, in my opinion, is bipolar. It's either fantastic and I can't wait to get more or it's the grossest **** I have ever tasted in my life. It's almost never in between.

I can't help you OP other than do a little research on popular dishes ahead of dinner and then ask your guy that booked it what his favorite things are. You can either follow his lead and hope you find something you like or you can just be honest that Indian food isn't something you know crap about. I've don't this a few times with weird restaurants with clients and most of the time they like ordering a bunch of stuff and helping you out.

Good luck! The wrong choice may impact your bowels for a few days

Yes that's what I have experienced- some of that crap was the nastiest stuff ever.

We are going to Kirans and it looks more like an American menu so maybe not too bad

I don't need messed up bowels with the big weekend coming up.. lol

Kirans is one of the best Indian places in Houston. Like others have said, if you don't like Tikka Masala then maybe stick to McDonalds and hotdogs.

Bison Ribeye sounds like Indian food… but not that kind of Indian…

I had a Bison tomahawk ribeye 10 +/- years ago in a restaurant outside of Big Sky MT and it was amazing! Best steak I've ever had.
