Tandoori Chicken and Nan bread about as non Indian Indian food as you can get.
who cares? It's served at Indian restaurants around the world and solid advice to someone with so much anxiety about going to one that they posted about it on the outdoors board.

They care or they would not have posted. I will try about anything not spelled Beets, from any country.

Lamb Vindaloo is basically the same as Texas chili but with lamb. Spice levels are like Defcon levels- 5 all is well in the world, 1 is nuclear Armageddon .

I'd eat everything on that menu. There's plenty of Indian-adjacent dishes on that menu that should be fine for people that aren't fans of traditional Indian food.

Korma. Technically it's a curry dish, but it's mild and harmless. It's actually really good.

Korma is the way to go. Little bit of spice balanced with a heavy cream sauce. Definitely not diet friendly, but freaking delicious.

Indian food always gives me a case of the walking trots.

The dishes look like they came out of the south end of a north bound cow.

Zambian food is very, very bland. Having grown up in Pearsall, we missed spicy food. Thank God there was an Indian Muslim community in Lundazi. We became friends with many of them and one on the wives sold taki out. It saved us.

Only 1-2 recommendations for vindaloo or phall? Bunch of low testosterone in here.

Get vindaloo in whichever meat you like that they have.

I moved to the Middle East hating Indian food but acquired a taste for it after I got there since it is everywhere and they don't have Whataburger. I suggest ordering Chicken Biriani. It is basically chicken and rice and does not have any exotic spices.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned Potato and Pea samosas. That's an easy gateway to Indian cuisine. Korma would be the easiest main dish. I never understand people who grew up eating Tex-Mex not liking Indian food. Maybe the OP doesn't like Tex Mex either

I don't have anything to add to this other than we built our house in 2020 and were some of the first to buy in the neighborhood. Within 18 months the buyers nearly all became Indian. Weirdest situation I've ever been part of. We bought at the right time but holy **** it's weird living in little india.

To bring things full circle, I don't eat Indian food anymore because they piss me off.

Andhra Chilli Chicken and Vindaloo are my go-to dishes, but not what I'm recommending to someone who is scared to even try Indian food.

Update on Indian Dinner at Kirans in Houston
I have to say that this food was absolutely amazing, we ate a little of everything with one person ordering for the table. The Tandori was my favorite but really good food in general. I will come back here and eat anytime. Nothing like Indian food I had eaten in the past.

Double thumbs up

I think I'm in the Sugarland of DFW. Northlake. We are going to gtfo here. No way in hell my kids are going to be in top 10%. My kids are playing soccer and football while their kids are in Code Ninjas and getting tutored until 10 PM.

I'm with you. I don't care for coriander or mint and I hate coconut. I also don't care for citrus flavors mixed with meats. That rules me out of most Indian food. I generally do butter chicken, saffron rice and some naan if others want to go to an Indian restaurant. Naan is excellent as it's basically like pita.

Indian markets sell Garam Masala mix as whole seeds/spices. Toast them up in a pan then grind them in a coffee grinder. It's a whole nother level

We had the garlic nan, which was basically garlic pita bread, really really good. We had a caprese salad, it was identical to the caprse you get at Carabas . Calamari was same as well .. lots of good food no doubt

Ok so I used to think I hated anything "curry" but now I think of an Indian curry as a stew.

I like Vindaloo. It's stewed meat and potatos in a vinegary sauce and it's spicy. It's delicous. Get naan, it's like bread for sopping similar to a flour tortilla. Comes with basmati rice too.
