I have lots of admiration for and inspiration from your portable, Bluetooth, outdoor speaker. Very cool!

I would like to point out that Turtlebox is an Aggie-owned, Texas-based company. Also, when my son's year old Turtlebox broke, the company replaced it for free, no questions asked.

(I have no affiliation with Turtlebox.)

I have no affiliation either, but I did hear the guys interviewed on the Michael Berry show. Ironically, they were doing the same thing you guys are doing. Outdoor guys who had tried all the outdoor speakers, wanted something better, so they made it for themselves. Their friends liked it, so they built some more. Next thing they know, they're in demand, and they started selling them. Michael Berry harassed them about the price, and they said they originally built the boxes for themselves with the highest quality materials so they wouldn't break. That's why they're so expensive.

Got the last of my Amazon orders in yesterday so I got home early and went to work. Me and the kid had it done in less than 2 hours.. I built out a pretty basic model and it sounds much better than the Turtle. I told the kid he can have the Turtlebox and I'd keep this one. His response was......Nah, I'm all about the sound, not the label. Well, speakers come in sets so Amazon shipment incoming for build #2 for kid #2

I am never going to get the spare time to build one for myself. I am jealous of you guys.

I looked up this thread because my wife saw a post about a woman that left her Turtlebox on the dock of a restaurant near Rockport and was asking that whoever took it to please return it. My wife had no idea what a Turtlebox was and looked it up to see; she couldn't believe how expensive they are. I remembered this thread and showed it to her so she could understand a little more about the use and idea behind them.

I also have the following comments

1. What an amazing trip that looks like.
2. Great job on the build.
3. There is absolutely no reason I need to build one of these.
4. I really enjoyed making the ammo-box power system several years back after being inspired by the thread on here. So much so that I built 3 more for family members.
5. I'm pretty sure I'll wind up building something like this just for the fun of it. Retirement is great.

Thanks for the inspiration.

You can search for the thread on the OB; I don't remember how long ago it was, but at least 5-6 years ago.
Here's the video of the one I built; all the parts are linked in his video. It has LED lights, USB ports, a 12VDC plug like an old car lighter, and banana plug inlets, with switches for each one. A lot of the posters on here that built them used them for going to/from hunting blinds and keeping their electronics charged during the day.

It was a fun project, and I really enjoyed building it.

He has another one that he put out later to replace the ammo box. It uses standard cordless power tool batteries with an adapter.

A personal anecdote: one of the boxes I built was for my brother that lives in Pennsylvania. We built two, one for him and one for my daughter in Virginia. HIs basement doesn't have any windows, and at the time, he didn't have any emergency lighting. One day when he was in his basement, his power went out and it was pitch black. He was stumped as to what to do and then remembered his power box with the LEDs. He shuffled down his workbench until he found it, switched it on, and turned the LEDs on. Day is saved. I'm not sure if he has since added any emergency lighting, but I did recommend it to him.

I had some 5.25" speakers laying around for about 10 years that I bought for some reason I can't recall. Built my first mini with the 1800 case. Sounds great for its size and #2 kid is taking this one instead of the 6x9 2800 I had planned for the weekend. Said it will be a better size for the dorm.
