Local gun shop has a big glass jar on their counter labeled, "it's not loaded." It's pretty much full of ammo. Funny but not really.

Always check the chamber on every firearm you handle. Took a buddy's 870 to clean it up, it was "unloaded", pumped it and a shell popped out. Was a good object lesson for his son about how easy it is to make a mistake with a gun.

My son (10 at the time) had a ND dove hunting. As we stood up to shoot he took the safety off before mounting the gun and then stuck his finger on the trigger and boom. Shot the ground in front of him. Scared the hell out of both of us. Good news is he was following the other safety rules and nothing bad happened. Needless to say he hasn't had an issue with safety since
