Employees who perform duties essential to research, clinical services, facility management, utilities, safety or security should confirm reporting protocol with supervisors. All other employees are authorized to work remotely on Jan. 21. Employees who cannot perform assigned tasks or job responsibilities remotely should communicate their circumstances with supervisors and request emergency leave, as appropriate.

It is a good idea. People from the southern half of Texas cannot drive on snow or ice (IMHO). It is better to stay at home and be safe. I am sure other businesses, in our area, will take Tuesday off.

Heck, most College Station residents can't even exit or merge on HWY 6 without causing delays/breaking. No idea why they struggle to use a ramp this much. I see all ages with what must be clueless blank stares who can't exit without breaking to 50 MPH.

Add snow/ice, and residents will be in mass chaos.

I expect all local school districts to announce soon they will be closed Tuesday.
I'm thinking Wednesday will a late start if not closed.

Agree with guy above , BCS residents are bad enough drives as it is now add some wintry precipitation and it's a no brainer.

I drove in Dallas when the snow/ ice storm came thru and it wasn't terrible. Conditions here will likely be fine to drive on but it's all a precaution

Normally, I would feel the same. But this time may actually be different. I follow a Houston meteorologist from the Houston area whose blogs post maps/forecasts that include BCS. It's actually looking like we will see snow. https://spacecityweather.com/

When I was working in Dallas in the 90's, it was snowing early in the morning. That's back when they'd announce on the radio about closures. Our company (along with others) closed for the day. By 10 am, it had already burned off and was sunny in the 40s . CEO was so p'd our name was on the radio as closed, they never closed again.

Yeah the daytime forecasts are well above freezing, so lots of melting will happen. Really just depends if more than a scarce amount of water remains to freeze.

Every student at Texas A&M owns two cars and they drive both to campus. Each year the BCs community welcomes 70K+ of the worst drivers in the state, and we concentrate them in a small area. The cities of Bryan and College Station should get first place in the DPS road construction queue, to compensate.

Things are different down south. Up in the cold dark north, it would take at least 2-3 feet of snow to cancel work/school. With 4 inches to 2 ft of snow I would strap on my "skinny" skis and cross country into work.

So, the northern Texas drivers would include Dallas right... they know how to drive on icy roads, right??

I did enjoy the Houston transit interview that has gone viral. We don't have snowplows down here. Then what is your plan? We wait for it to melt.

You're damned if you do and damned if you don't around here. Cancel out of caution and then we get nothing, parents are pissed the kids are out. Don't cancel and it's bad, parents are pissed you have their babies on the roads.

Friends that go to ILT are already out Tuesday and Wednesday due to being grouped with Houston.

Former KBTXer Travis Herzog has said consistently since Saturday that we could see 3-6" of snow depending on which bands we are in.

Tuesday is the coldest forecast day, so anything wet will refreeze Tuesday night making Wednesday morning interesting.

It's mixing all the retirees entering the freeway doing 40 with the students. That's the bad combo we're stuck with

Traffic is much better in the summer... It may be the decrease in population, but it is the students.

Traffic may be less in the summer but there is no shortage of people that just flat out don't know how to drive.

guessing that means CSISD to follow suit. I cannot imagine what the issue is, it's going to be very cold but with all of the sun this afternoon the precip should be off of roads..

Covid and this phrase (see highlighted below in Bryan's announcement) free reign to just do whatever they want and feel they can't be questioned because it is ONLY about safety.

School Closure Update: In light of current winter weather alerts and potentially hazardous road conditions, out of an abundance of caution, all Bryan ISD schools and facilities will be closed on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. All Bryan ISD extracurricular activities will be canceled as well.

Classes will resume on Thursday, January 23rd, following our regular schedule. Stay warm and stay safe!

Well I can see if they're worried moisture on the roads will refreeze making for hazardous conditions. You don't want buses out there sliding off the road.

Huh. Temps are nearly 40 degrees, and the sun is shining. Roads are bone dry now with no additional precip forecasted.
