Yeah, that's actually somewhat of a historic structure. Have come across newspaper articles about it from when it was built. I think it was designed by the same person who designed the old AMCHS auditorium (long since demolished). Definitely needs to be cleaned and spruced up though.

I watched KBTX discuss BVCOG meeting today with TxDOT presentation. It seems that "I-214" is the new euphemism for the East Loop to be able to discuss it and fly under the radar. That's right - Interstate loop 214.

Interesting report by TxDOT rep Doug Marino at today's Brazos Valley Council of Governments.

Top 5 road projects are
1. Widening of Hwy 6.
2. Widening of FM 2154 ( Wellborn)
3. Bush Underpass
4. Texas Avenue improvements
5. Interstate Loop 214.

Interstate 14 and Loop I-214 have no funding. Mr. Marino previously said this to me face-face and he said it again today on KBTX. It will take decades to complete.

Notably expansion of East Loop FM 2818 wasn't mentioned in the meeting or listed as a priority. Mr Marino also told me the unfunded I-214 has priority over an East Loop.

Don't expect East Brazos County development along an East Loop or outer Loop in this decade.

Don't think that the county working on an East Loop and its ROW isn't anything but trying to set the route of I-214.

The corridor widths and layouts for the different proposals for East Loop FM2818 do not meet Interstate requirements.

I-214 is a different project, even farther out than the proposed East Loop, and an actual highway rather than a "super-arterial" similar to FM 2818. You can see both on this map as previously linked ITT.

Yeah they are pretty different routes and not interchangeable requirements. Plus txdot isn't doing inner loop, brazos county is. So not really a surprise they didn't speak on it.

My pitchfork is sharp and ready, but gonna save it for a different conspiracy I think.

I wonder why people call it I-214 loop? A loop typicall goes from a highway going around a town or something, and then back to the highway again. It doesnot loop I-14. Why not call it as it would be "H-6 Loop"?

The county funded one is in purple on the linked map. It connects to FM 2818. For purposes of clarity, I call this one the "Inner East Loop"

The TxDoT funded one is blue on the map and will (if I'm reading the maps correctly) be a spur off the proposed I-14. Since it's further out, I think of this one as the "Outer East Loop"

And yes, 3-digit Interstate numbers that start with 2 are usually bypass type loops, like I-205 around Portland/Vancouver or I-295 around Richmond, VA.

Does this have anything to do with Kacal filling in for Peters?
EBrazosAg

Everything. All the commissioners wanted a way out of the E Loop. Peters was the force keeping it alive - my supposition is due to his sales pitch on the original bond vote. His absence provided the breathing room to find an exit.

I disagree that it was Peters. Any commissioner could have made a request. Brown said he would but never had the guts to do so. Konderla is on his way out so there's no reason for him not to do it.

I'm sure the NEL group is having a party tonight!

I guess you could be right. I think my take is more of a Occams Razor answer, but to each his own. My years say any answer with a politician that accounts for their ego is likely close to the truth. Chuck had no ego in the loop. Peters did.

Judge Peters is a good man and it's a shame to think that his legacy may be tarnished by all of this. When he appointed Kacal as a temporary replacement, the thoughts ran from a Peter's yes man to someone that will fix all the problems in the county. You're never going to make everyone happy, and I wouldn't want to be in any of the commissioner's shoes, much less the judges.

It's a shame that so much has been said about the members of the court and their integrity and honor. I know a few of them personally and this situation has taken a serious toll on them that people don't realize. From people at church to their own families questioning their morals. Lines have been drawn and crossed, and some relationships may never be repaired.

In the end, not everyone will be satisfied no matter what happens.

If you run for any sort of public office rest assured there will be polarizing challenges that come your way. Thinking otherwise is foolishness at the highest level. Often times folks seek out Commissioners Court because its a paid gig (and a pretty damn good one at that) and most of the times much ado about nothing. Easy to say how others should or shouldn't react when the issue at hand isn't going to affect you, not to mention potentially involve TEARING DOWN YOUR HOUSE. Obviously, there are lines that shouldn't be crossed nor should a bona fide topic that subjectively could provide benefit in the long run constitute in indictment of character. But, they should have known that a lighting rod of a project such as this was going to bring the thunder.

Peters is a good man. I meant nothing other than ego when I said ego. I don't know a politician without an ego - and Peters let his ego over the 22 bond election (the one passed and the one defeated) cloud what should have been his judgement on the East Loop. I might have done the same - but I hope I wouldn't. It's clear that no one in the court now wants to touch it with a 10 foot pole, and that shows good (and improving ) instincts on their part.

Brazos County Commissioners just voted to terminate the contract.

Smart decision; this seemed like a badly conceived plan.

When it happens, it'll have to be a TXDOT thing. They're better at it than the city anyway.

So what's the plan for dealing with increased growth pressure and traffic on the east side that would be acceptable? I didn't like the way the whole loop thing went down either and it likely was overkill, but there will be growth and resulting necessary upgrades that get harder the longer we wait...

All this did was take it out of the county's hands and into TXDOT's. Now we will have no say in where they go.

Not on TxDOT radar. Incremental wins. Community awareness. TxDot doesn't do things no one wants. Strawman argument.

Been hearing some things where they will try to do this via another method. If you see some old, familiar names start popping up in key local government positions, it will be on but with a lot less visibility.

I don't think it's on their radar right now, but it isn't a Strawman argument. When TxDot decides that they are going to do something, they do it.
