There are lots of issues causing traffic in this town....so this is only one small solution to help.

No trucks in the left lane from Peach Creek to OSR.

The semi going 68 doesn't get to pass the semi going 64, All of them need to stay in the right lane, always, no exceptions.

Don't get me started!!!!! I had a magnetic sign on the back of my truck I would put on that read-

"Left Lane For
Passing Only
No Left Ln Cruising
This Means You Dips***t"

Had it done at Vistaprint for 25 bucks, had it for years until I forgot it was on and it blew off at a carwash.

Left Lane Cruisers are the worst, rolling 65 mph in the left lane with traffic backed up to the ocean behind them, either clueless or not giving a crap. 90% of the time it's a minivan

I thought we had this already. At one point I thought they weren't allowed in the left lane except to pass and avoid on-ramp traffic.

What "city ordinance"?! The length you're describing covers two cities and an unincorporated area governed by neither.

If we had extra lanes, restricting them to the middle lane is fine. The problem with restricting them to the right lane is all of the entrance and exits ramps. Plus the everyday drivers lack of merging knowledge would cause even greater back ups. Then you also have the driver that gets on the freeway just to jump a stop light that never gets up to "moving" freeway speed. The whole scenario would eventually make the right line one solid line of vehicles so everybody wanting to exit would now be slowing down the left lane trying to get over to their exit.

Then we can add in the 60 mph driver that is already out there camped out in the left "passing" lane and will not move over. Most of the pokie joes that I pass, I am passing in the right lane.

Too many vehicles and not enough lanes.

Truck exclusion lanes are reserved for three lanes (six lane roadways) or more, for good reason.

You need TxDOT to change the rules of the road for highway 6.

The stretch of highway 6 is 70 mph. The distance between Peach Creek and OSR is 24 miles. At 70 mph it will take 20mins. At 64 mph it will take 27 minutes. A difference of 7 mins. So what is the rush.

First time reading one of his posts?

On the data center thread he suggested that data centers build their own water towers to alleviate the concerns over water demands.

What really slows down Highway 6 is too many highway entrances. They need make metered ramps on some of them like University Drive but having what amounts to stoplights on entrance ramps is going to be unfathomable to half this board.

I have two questions.

Have you ever seen those signs anywhere that had less than three lanes?
What about the exit at 6 and Business 6?

And they will get ignored just like they do in Houston.

This is another problem that has previously been mentioned here.

Too many exits and entrances. Every cross street doesn't need its own pair. One should have to go thru at least one light on the frontage road before getting the privilege of joining the highway.

Put your foot down. You should reach highway speed BEFORE reaching the end of the entrance ramp.

And don't slow down until you are at least halfway down the entrance ramp.

To other responses:

7 minutes is an eternity.

And the merging information is simple...speed up to get in front of the semi, or slow down to get behind the semi. If you can't perform these basic maneuvers to join the highway, then take a bus.

A double lane left exit to Texas from Hwy 6 north would be super simple. It is already wide enough under the RP flyover bridge and there are 2 lanes at the stoplight. Just widen that exit to 2 lanes.

Hwy 6 is ALREADY wide enough for 3 lanes. Just need to change lane lines. The major project is the bridges at Hwy 30 for example. Thats a bigger project.

I don't think he's saying there is a city ordinance already in place. He's saying there needs to be one. Now as far as the area stated that covers both towns, these towns work together enough that could come up a joint ordinance that covers both.

Also, highway 6 will be going to 6 lanes. So I doubt they will change anything before that happens.

The math.

from The Oaks At OSR, Texas 77807
to 30.5047606, -96.1980279 (peach creek road) 32 min (24.2 miles) at 70mph
34 mins at 64 mph

70mph time = 20.7429 minutes
64mph time = 22.6875 minutes

****eta****
70mph and 64mph are both more than 1 mile per minute so time cannot equal more than 24.2 minutes no matter how you figure it

24 miles / 70 miles/hour = 0.32 hours = 20mins. You are correct.
I was basing my estimate on google maps (see above)

But 95% of the drivers are driving 80 mph and faster. I go 70 to 72 on Hwy 6 four to five times a day many days and most vehicles sail by me like I'm standing still.

I would be that a miniscule number of those drivers are not going anywhere that they need to get there a few minutes earlier,

The biggest risk on Hwy 6 is the drivers that access Hwy 6 off the ramp and go about 45 mph and then slow down more and try to enter the highway,,,,,,increase your speed on the ramp to the speed of the traffic in the right lane and you can easily merge into the highway,

I actually think the 70 mph speed limit is too high through the city limits of Bryan and CS. Traffic is dense even outside of the typical rush hours.

Especially southbound Hwy 6 going over the Barron Rd. overpass. Most everyone is queuing up in the right lane to exit on Fitch and, for some reason, feel the need to slow to about 35mph.

Yes, and if you have just turned out of that Kroger and are getting onto the highway, you want to accelerate and get up to speed, but by the time you get up to 60mph or so, you have to slow down to 35-40mph just to try and fit into the slow clump that you mention is there all of the time

To me on Hwy 6, 70 mph is perfect if people would drive it,

I think the state needs to hire a dozen more highway patrol officers and give a few hundred tickets on Hwy 6 every week for drivers who go 5 mph over the speed limit,
