There are close to 30 million people in Texas. I agree, the inner cities (Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio are blue or turning blue but they make up less than 1/3 of the population. Texas is still red and will be for a looong time.

We shall see. Projections are near certain by 2028, and I wouldn't be surprised if sooner.

We have 3 young kids zoned for Gorzycki Middle School and Bowie HS. Both schools are "fine" but still AISD run. Between that and what's going on with our city and the leadership of the elected officials I am strongly considering getting out and moving to Lake Travis or possibly Dripping. Was wondering if anyone else is thinking the same?

What is specifically wrong with gorzycki? I haven't talked to anyone with a bad thing to say. If you put any stock into Great schools website, which is a huge mistake, you should be fine!
Nothing wrong at all really....Think its simply more that LT High School is much better than Bowie. And then the liberal push in Austin is the other deciding factor for us.
I have one going to Gorzycki next year and a 2nd grader. I am fairly certain that the older will be OK through high school but I am concerned about the younger one. That said I can't justify a move yet. The demographics are fairly high and improving which will be a huge buffer to a big decline but the facilities at Bowie are falling apart and the new transplants are a little over the top left. I have looked at Dripping, Eans, and LT and couldn't justify the massive increase in commute time or the housing costs (Eans). The schools definitely have their issues but all things considered I hope to try and work to make it all work for my kids. There are a lot more neighbors with common concerns than you think. AISD doesn't help though.

Just FYI, Drip is on the struggle bus when it comes to school this year. No plan, poor communication so who the hell knows what is going on as we progress.

For a school district of our size it's turned into a **** show. Parents are livid but seems to fall on deaf ears at the school board meetings. Sorry for the rant, just not sure what to expect with our district moving forward.

What district is doing the online thing well? None of my friends across the state are happy with this distance crap and neither are the kids. I don't think this is solely a DSISD problem.

Dang y'all! I'm Bowie Class of '03 and Ms. Gorzycki was my band teacher at Bailey MS. I moved away for college and haven't been back. I've only been able to keep up with stuff through my parents and social media. I knew Bowie's facilities were lacking (b/c they haven't changed since I was there) and I've seen where they're making improvements to athletics and fine arts.

My post isn't going to offer any advice, since I live in south College Station now. However, best of luck in your search. I wish things were different.

Gig 'em!

The problem we have is the Sup. lack of communication with the community. Now that folks can go back to the classroom, sounds like they're requiring masks all day, no recess, very much over kill policies for elementary kids. Regardless, we are two weeks out from going back and not a damn clue on what it's going to look like.

I've you're trying to get away from the big city, you should probably look at Florence. Expansion has already caught up with LH.

LH has and continues to explode. I like Florence. Keep in mind the 183A Toll road is getting extended to LH.

We moved out of Austin to the hill country (Fredericksburg area) about 2 years ago. I could see the handwriting on the wall, and my house in Austin was never going to be worth more than it was when we sold it.

Johnson City area would be a decent place to live. You'd be in Blanco County, and I'm pretty sure your property taxes would be less than what they would be in Gillespie County. We are in Gillespie, about 3 miles from Doss, TX, and 17 miles from Fredericksburg, but our address does state that we are in Fredericksburg.

Back to Johnson City, it's starting to look like a mini-Fburg. Antique shops (wife calls them crap stores), a few wineries have popped up, and a burgeoning restaurant area around the town square. It's still got that small town vibe, and there are definitely worse places to live. Good luck with your search.

Lived in Bee Caves for 20 years until last fall. Sold our house and actually moved in Austin. With Covid, traffic in town is actually less than in the burbs. LT is a fine school we sent our kids to catholic school though. Area has and is and will continue to boom.

Our next move is eastward in the country.

My job allows me to work from home with flexibility. I would love to move farther North to somewhere like Salado or Florence, but I do not want to be farther away from saltwater. Once my son is out of HS, in a few years, we will be leaving this area, I would imagine for good. I am tired of all the progressives and their inability to think about consequences of their screwy policies.

I wouldn't mind Victoria or Corpus, but my wife would probably never go for either.

Unfortunately, Williamson County is bluer by the day. Tons of liberal transplants in Round Rock, Georgetown, Leander, etc.

This may be the way to go. It's only about 15 minutes longer to get to Port O'Connor from CS than from Round Rock. Not having to go through or around Austin would be a bonus. 20 years ago, I never thought I would want to leave this area. My ancestors have lived within 100 miles of this spot for almost 200 years.

Ha just sold my place of 10 years there in LH on the river. LH had enough growth as it was. Loved it there but time to move further out.

I live in Circle C and kids went to Gorzycki and Bowie. My son will graduate this year. I think the school staffs are good overall, and believe my kids got a quality education. Last spring the response to COVID was bad, but this semester they seem to have their act together overall with a hybrid model. Not perfect, but as good as many colleges based on my discussions with other parents and what my daughter deals with in the UNC system.

You do have to understand the AISD really got negatively affected by recapture (aka Robin Hood) over the past 15 years. I don't think the law anticipated a wealthy area having such a high percentage of low income and minority (ESL) students and seriously aging infrastructure. I believe before the changes in the last Leg session about 50% of our taxes went to recapture.

My biggest issue is with the School Board that refuses to redistrict since they know it will be controversial, so you have some schools at 70% capacity and others at 115-120%. They seem to think more studies will fix the issue. I went to a public meeting 9 yrs ago to consider a new South HS and told them "it is obvious you missed the real estate dip and won't be able to afford a new HS. Seems like it is time to consider redistricting or new magnet school offerings south of the lake to increase use of campuses with excess capacity". It took 8 yrs before they started officially evaluating what seemed obvious to a layman almost a decade ago.

All that said, we're likely to move out west after son graduates, especially if the ability to work remotely most days continues. I'm not a fan of spending 2 hours per day in the truck. Of course an all blue council, high taxes, and the pending Project Connect bond all weigh into that desire.

We didn't live in Austin city limits, but lived 1/2 mile outside of the city limits in Cedar Park. Lived in CP for 10 years and it has gotten crazy with population, traffic, and crime seems to be ticking up accordingly. Still a fine place to live, for now, if you don't mind tons of people.

We are moving out, way out, all the way to east Tennessee. No state income tax, cheaper housing prices, WAY cheaper property taxes, four seasons including tolerable summer months, and scenic beauty that cannot be rivaled anywhere in Texas.

We recently moved from South Austin to Bastrop. My wife and I were looking as far east as Smithville and as far north as Georgetown. West and southwest were not an option for us because of my wife's commute, though that hasn't really been an issue during Covid. We're 25ish minutes to downtown Austin, door-to-door, and an easy commute to the airport. Moving during Covid actually made things easier because we weren't seeing a bunch of our friends anyway.

Lower taxes, can see the stars at night, and 1.5acres. We love it out here, there's basically everything you need. Hell, there's even a Panda Express.

I'm told the schools aren't that great, but we don't have kids/aren't having kids so we can afford to wait for things to improve some. I can say that much like everywhere else in central Texas, property values are rising. Lots in our area that went for $25k four years ago are now at $100k.

Easy drive in to Austin, community is gated, large lots, wide streets, and abundant wildlife. Also, not in Travis County or City of Austin. Those were our requirements and we couldn't be happier.
