We moved to The Colony. We're in the original area or what will be called The Estates once the new stuff is finished. So far we can't say enough good things. I originally thought we'd be the youngest people here by 25 or so years. But we've been pleasantly surprised that there are younger people here too.

If you want to pm me I'll give you my email address and happy to give you more details.

I think I'll drive down and check it out this weekend. Thanks for the heads up.

My only worry is I would be on the lower end of the housing prices listed for new construction, usually means tiny lots where houses are built 3ft from each other.

The results of this election will make a big difference for us. If Prop A passes taxes will be unbearable. Id also like to see a few of the current city council members defeated. When I tell my friends in other cities that Austin voted to defund the police $150 they chuckle a bit. When I tell them it was unanimous they are shocked.

we've been in Buda for going on 12 years now. the 45 toll really opened things up. Fortunately we are in the very back of an older neighborhood that borders City of Austin Water Quality lands. FYI the intersection of 1626/967 is blowing up like crazy, with approximately 1800 new homes in the next 5 years, 4 schools and an incoming McDonalds ( for better or worse), its going to be pretty congested at times. If you can find a good relatively secluded homestead to be able to access those amenities, its a pretty good setup.

Bastrop is a sleeper, dark horse, whatever you want to call it. We are going to build it right and keep the charm of a small Texas town next to the juggernaut that is Austin.

Once all the infrastructure is in place (happening now) Bastrop will be in a sweet spot - State Park (check), natural River/paddle trail/hike & bike (check), Main Street winner (check), established/vibrant Historical District (check), Food & Art District/live music scene (check)... what is lacking are the schools. It's a major issue and one that good folks are working hard to improve.

We moved from Tarrytown about two years ago after living in Austin 12 years. Empty nesters who work from home. Moved to BCS.

Miss being near downtown and all the things to do right at our doorstep. Music and the greenbelt. Deep eddy cab.

Don't miss the traffic to get anywhere (probably not as bad nowadays), homelessness being out of control, city council, bonds being passed every year for huge amounts.

Things to remember if you move. Property taxes are high everywhere. Cool vibes are hard to find.

Nice. I got married in Bigfork back in 2010. Only visit to Montana, but I hope to go back. Took a day trip to Glacier National up to the Going-To-The-Sun Road. Beautiful.

For our honeymoon we drove to Seattle, through Coeur d'Alene, ID. That place was amazing as well.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

Stepkids dad lives here so moving far isn't an option.

Decree does allow for two counties away from Travis county instead of just one. Living in Avery ranch now.

I want to get the hell out of here. I'm from Houston, I would be going back to north north Houston area if I could. Willis area.

I don't see the appeal of Austin.
I'm thinking Bastrop or la grange

There's lots of places as trashy as Willis within a 2 county area of Austin. San Saba, Lampasas, Killeen, Pendleton, Seguin, just to name a few.

My wife has been working remotely for a few years now. Just had to find myself a job. It was not a quick process, but found an awesome job and had a lot of other things fall into place. Really helped that we got company housing because there's very little affordable on the rental side of things. Typically either Austin equivalent rental rates which most of the county could never afford, or methy looking places. It's a big culture shock going from Austin to a town of 250 people but worth it.

We're under contract on a place right now, but the real estate market is pretty hot. Lots of out of state folks buying things really quick over asking. Mostly Californians. Our area has a ton of vacation homes, so people from Washington and the Bitterroot Valley that live up here in the summer.

Id be curious to know what is being done to improve the schools (and what the issues that are holding that area back are), bastrop is one of the areas we are considering moving to and schools are a big part of our decision. Everything else about bastrop is great but the schools is our big hangup. Our oldest is 3 so as long as the "issues" would be improved upon we would be fine.

I'd agree very much. Bastrop is primed for growth. Land is still relatively affordable and it isn't far from Austin on good highways.

I have lived in District 6 for seven years, and the serious crime has spiked in the last 18 months. Jimmy Flannigan and City Council have really made their presence felt!

There was a murder at the Apple dealership on 2222 in 4 Points a few days ago. City council wants to turn the Fairfield Inn across 183 from Balcones Country Club into a tax payer-funded flop house for the homeless.

I am very disappointed, and my wife is pissed. We are looking at Dripping, Driftwood, and Wimberley. It stinks because our kids like their school situation.

You have got to admire the OP. He posted he was looking to get out and he signed papers two months later. I wonder what I could do with all the time I spend fuming about that transportation spending prop if I just pulled the trigger myself.

I'm starting to think the same about Williamson County. Too many libs have moved in and it won't be long before they will put their failed state socialist policies in place and screw our area up too. They can't seem to realize the reason they had to leave their former home had everything to do with what they pissed away tax dollars on, and kept raising them to do so, on business owners.

We have 3 young kids zoned for Gorzycki Middle School and Bowie HS. Both schools are "fine" but still AISD run. Between that and what's going on with our city and the leadership of the elected officials I am strongly considering getting out and moving to Lake Travis or possibly Dripping. Was wondering if anyone else is thinking the same?

What is specifically wrong with gorzycki? I haven't talked to anyone with a bad thing to say. If you put any stock into Great schools website, which is a huge mistake, you should be fine!
Nothing wrong at all really....Think its simply more that LT High School is much better than Bowie. And then the liberal push in Austin is the other deciding factor for us.

Im glad you moved out. I teach at Bowie and have definitely seen the leftist push. The school has a pretty good newspaper but it might as well be CNN Jr. They had an article last year in which an English teacher quoted that toxic masculinity in South Austin derives from football and Christian principles. I still have the article and I am still shocked. My kids were zoned to Bowie, but not anymore as we also left the area. I wasn't really comfortable with my kids having teachers push their agenda on them. I want teachers to teach them how to think, not what to think.

Everything else about bastrop is great but the schools is our big hangup. Our oldest is 3 so as long as the "issues" would be improved upon we would be fine.

I have a large family. 8 kids. 5 of them are adults and have all attended college. 4 went through Bastrop ISD schools. 2 went to Cedar Creek HS and onto college (Texas A&M). The other 3 are at the Colorado River Collegiate Academy in Bastrop, TX. This is an early college HS which has a partnership with Austin Community College. 2 have graduated with 2 year college degrees. 1 is in her Junior year at TAMU-CC and the other will be joining her in the Fall '21. They want to live off campus. They both have raked in a bunch of college scholarship money and have borrowed very little. The other 3 will be attending CRCA.

CRCA is one of the top HS in Texas academically. The reason is simple - they focus on academics. There has been no drop off from Catholic School (St. Mary's in Austin) to High School. That was not the case at Cedar Creek HS. Our girls there had to enroll in all the honor courses and Pre-AP just to get the good teachers in my opinion. Bastrop HS is very problematic - I think the best faculty left for Cedar Creek HS? Thankfully, CRCA is here (right across the street from BHS). No UIL Sports, but plenty of Clubs. It is early college, so your kid(s) will be taking college level courses by their 2nd year and will be taking a full college load by their senior year.

If your goal is to have your kids ready for college - CRCA is as good as any school you can find next to LASA in Austin - The Liberal Arts and Science Academy at LBJ. My oldest daughter graduated from the LASA program and went on to Rice University. She was kind of burned out though.

So to sum up - Bastrop HS (would need to get you kid all the Pre-AP and Honor courses). Same with Cedar Creek HS. CCHS is a nice High School experience - but can be a distraction. One of my daughters played softball and volleyball. Very demanding extracurricular schedule. Unless your kid has aspirations to play college sports may not be worth it. I feel like the coaches are using the kids to boost their resumes and move on to bigger schools (just my opinion).

It starts with home - all the kids are nice for the most part (a few bullies) - but it boils down to you and your kids. CRCA is a challenge - but my kids have made good friends that are smart and college bound.

HTH - sorry for the long response :-)

+pablo

It's the historic small Texas town charm. Not to mention a kayak paddle trail on the river, state park, good size lake, golf courses, and award winning Main Street. Those other towns are not as diverse geographically.

But yeah - to each his own!
