Played golf starting at 10am (Sherrill Park). Beautiful day. Stripped down to shorts by #6. The ponds were frozen to where you could roll a ball entirely across them
We played at Texas Star in Euless. Was great until the 18th when we ended up stuck behind multiple groups in the shade nearing sunset and were cold AF

Yeah, walked and played in about 3:15. That gets the blood pumping

Alright weather savants … the regular forecast doesn't show any more freezing weather in at least the next 10 days.

Can I unwrap my palm trees now?

I would. But that doesn't mean it won't freeze again.

I plan to scalp yard on Friday and put down the preemergent. Tis the season.

No fertilizer until the lawn is actively growing - which for my St. Aug, will probably be mid-April.

Long range is expecting one more cold snap right around spring break. Hopefully it's nothing like last week and just a light freeze.

I didn't think it was good to scalp St. Augustine. Have I been doing it wrong?
ChoppinDs40

It's not. St augustine needs dethatching and the warm temps to get going.

It's never good to cut more than 1/3rd the blade. Bermuda is dormant though so it really just removes the top to get the ground warmed up.

Still way too early IMO.

Always one last freeze before Easter.

I let me St. Augustine get long at the end of the growing season to better insulate the ground during the winter.

Probably few weeks too early to scalp, but I'm out fo town the next three weekends so I'll chance it.

dang it, 5 pool tiles on the waterfall off. Water behind them must have froze. That whole waterfall needs regrouting anyway. The snowmagedon a few back really did a number on that grout.

Got mine out last weekend. I'm scared of the "week too early vs. a week too late" thing.

I think you should get it out this weekend.

Put mine down today. Better too early than too late.

This is why I try to talk people out of putting tile on raised water features.

What kind of pre-emergent do y'all use

Man… a bunch of my landscaping turned brown this week. I suppose the windchills were just too much.

Looks like I'm losing my kaleidoscope lobelias, desert sage, variegated pittosporums. Even my dwarf yaupons are looking insanely stressed.

Could be a sizable rip out come this spring.

I use this from Calloway's. I think Calloway's carries better lawn products that Home Depot or Lowes. I'm open to feedback though before I drop $100 on 3 bags of this tomorrow.

Man that stinks. I actually sort of my hope stuff dies. We have been in this house now 5 years and wife refuses to clean up the landscaping. Just tons of crap. I want to rip it all out and take a minimalist approach. We have a nice size back yard and to me, less is more. Just want open grass for kids to run around and play.

Quotes for removal are a tad high. If I get the green light I may just invest in some new equipment and do it myself.

I go with the Neil Sperry recommendation of Lesco Dimensions or Scott's Halt.

I've been slowly adding native plants each year.

Some of the stuff the builder put in (built in '21) I don't like but a full redo would cost me 15k at least.

I could use some design help for a larger scale rip/replant and would
Likely do the work myself.

I shoveled and wheelbarrowed 10 yards of composted soil top dressing on my yard last year. That was a long week and my body still hurts from it.

Does he actually recommend the brands?

This year I used barricade (prodiamine). If you go to a Ewing Irrigation supply location, they have 50 lbs bags for $16.

I don't recall if he ever mentions brands or not, but those two are usually easy to find locally at HD

I use the calloways stuff above. It's pricey but I walked in this morning and there was no line and it's right by the checkout counter.

97$ after tax for three bags. I'm sure ace or hd has cheaper options

I'm assuming everyone is still good with putting down today, even with the severe weather expected Tuesday? The stuff I use is recommended to be watered in after, so I'm hoping it won't be washed away.

I guess if one wants to wait for a 5-day streak of perfect weather this time of year in N Texas, they'd be waiting until July.

I'm putting mine down today. Make sure you wet the grass before applying it or it'll blow away today.

Did mine today was well.

Scalped, sprayed weeds, and put down pre emergent

Thanks to you guys I made myself put it out 30 minutes before the rain started. Hopefully the rain is mild enough to just soak it in. Good news is that since the back yard is turf I have plenty left to reapply if needed.

I bought it today but had other stuff around the house that needed to get done. With the rain this evening, I'll put it down when I get home from work tomorrow.

Pre emergent, weed spray, cleaned out a slightly overgrown bed today. Ready to get sprung.

So it's looking a little dicey for overnight tonight into tomorrow. Talking potential large hail and 60mph winds? Moving west to east across the metroplex quickly from around 4-6am?
