Best WTDS of the ever.

The Ticket needs more Chipmunk drops.

that was more like 30 minutes. longest WTDS segment I've ever heard them do.

not that there's anything wrong with that...

Since Greggo is reported to be gone. Do you think he tries to get a job within this market or out of state?
Enrico Pallazzo
How long do you want to ignore this user?
out of state - he's going to get a job snorting coke off a hooker's ass in Las Vegas.

He's not gone for sure yet, there is a big legal battle going on right now between him and The Ticket which is why they can't play anymore of his drops.

When did it become cool to be "New Army?"

it's really amazing how far down the crapper this thing has gone. sure sounds like bad blood all the way around at this point.

i don't think the question is whether he's gone for sure or not; it sounds more of how much, if anything, will The Ticket have to pay to keep him gone.

i know. that needs to be part of the legal resolution...ability to play the Greggo drops. they still play lil David Robinson and Big Dick drops, and they got rid of them.

if ESPN is smart, they hire Greggo and put him up against Norm. I'd have to say, I'd be curious and check out Greggo during that time slot.

in other news, the Rich Phillips and Donovan Lewis show (as Bob Wilonsky says) is TERRIBLE.

He's a glorified sidekick that has snorted a part of his brain into oblivion. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone give him another shot in DFW, but they need to find the right guy to pair with him.

Dick Hicks is awful no matter who is paired with him.

I can't see Greggo doing a show by himself. He needs someone else to run things so that he can fire off HSO's and back-country witticisms. Whenever he had to do the show without Mike, he was lost. The Chief Kunkel "do you like this gig" interview was a perfect example. Of course, that might have been the coke talking, so who knows.
Enrico Pallazzo
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah, not only is he lost when he's on his own, he absolutely hates it (and makes no bones about hating it). but find the right guy to lead the show and keep him off the blow, and you might have yourself a show.

he was just really nervous during that interview. I mean I would be to if I had an eight ball in my pocket and was interviewing the cheif of police, the #1 cop, the commissioner!

the Chief Kunkel interview was nowhere near as bad as they've made it sound out of context. When he was asking those questions, I felt like I knew what he was trying to say.

With that said, as much as I love Greggo, I do not care for him as the leader of a show. I always kind of dreaded those days when he was bringing us back from commercial because Rhyner was gone. I don't know if it's because of the way he is, or because he was just nervous, but he is MUCH better when playing off someone else.

Galloway & Greggo?
Sports Director at the Wolf?
Retirement?

what about Greggo paired with Hansen?

i would tune in for that in a heartbeat. Some of you might disagree, but I loved when Hansen was at the Ticket.

Then what was he trying to say?

How do you take it out of context?

quote:
GW: "Do you like this gig?"
CK: "I love my job"
GW: "That wasn't the question. Do you like your job?"

What context is there that explains why/how he completely ignored/misheard Kunkel's answer?

I'm a definite Greggo supporter, but no amount of context lessens how dumbfounding of a moment that was.

Also what people forget about that interview was how he introduced it. Here's what he said, the best I can remember:

"You've heard Rhynes say 'sports and all that applies'? Well, we're going to apply something here."

First of all, Rhynes' line is "sports and all that implies". I have a hard time believing Greggo has heard it all these years and misunderstood it every time. Second, even if it is 'sports and all that applies', what he said makes no sense.

Greggo is good at what he does, that is essentially being the color guy who is along for the ride. Ask him to be the play-by-play guy who steers the ship and he gets lost.

Absolutely.... he was the weakest link with Rhynes and Corby. If he went up against Norm by himself, Norm would kill him!

So this morning, my alarms goes off at 6am. It's on the Ticket. Norm is on. "

Damn," I think. "Musers on vacation and Norm on, and the Cowbosy lost. This is going to suck."

I'm really tired, so I hit snooze. 6:09 the alarm comes on, and Corby is on. "WTF?" I think again. "Musers on vacation and Corby and Norm are filling in? That's strange."

I turn the alarm off since wife and baby are sleeping, and get ready for work.

I look at the clock in the kitchen, 5:30am. Go into the bedroom, 6:30am.

Apparently, what I was hearing was the top 10.

Longtime Lurker:

It's been so long since the interview that it's hard for me to give you any real accurate quotes. The way they've never gone back and replayed it doesn't help. But basically, as I struggle to recall, Greggo was trying to get deeper - despite the way it sounds. He felt like Kunkel was just giving him generic canned answer. I think Greggo wanted to hear more about why Kunkel liked his job (if he did) despite some of the crap that comes with it.

I wish I had a transcript, but believe me when I say I've spoken to multiple P1s who heard the interview live and didn't find that line of questioning to be completely mentally retarded. It definitely registered in memory since he never put to words what he was really trying to say. I remember thinking at the time that he needed to try using some different phrasing.

Maybe a Sturmesque question would have served him well.

I heard it live and thought it was ridiculous and wondered if he was back on drugs. I even remember where I was.

Those three lines are pretty much word-for-word. Obviously there was more afterward, but there's nothing really to add to that specific exchange.

I suppose your theory is a reasonable one.

However, what struck me as I listened to it live is that he immediately followed up (probably/possibly interrupting) with "That wasn't the question", not allowing Kunkel to elaborate at all on his "I love my job" statement.

If other people see it how you do, then I guess there are two sides.

But, to me, it never crossed my mind that Greggo was just trying to dig deeper. Both because he was so quick with the follow up, and his follow-up question more closely matched what Kunkel just said.

Regardless of what he was trying to do, I think it sounded to the majority of the people like he wasn't listening.

I think it kind of goes back to the comments above that he probably has trouble "steering the ship" on his own. He should have waited for Kunkel to finish his answer and then asked a follow-up question that actually dug deeper, instead of just restating the first question.

Regardless, it created one of my all-time favorite moments of Ticket radio gold.

I remember where I was too. I was driving down Gaston. Like I said, that struck a chord with me too, just not in the sense of "Greggo drops!" or "he's on dope!"

I wish we could hear the whole segment. I seem to remember the context was not nearly so bad. Whatever it was that he said before and/or after.

You're right though. It has definitely become some Ticket gold. I actually caught Corby doing a lesser version of "that wasn't the question" regarding people "watching the game at the Lodge". Grubes said he was going to pull it and have it ready.

I've listened to the Ticket since 1997 and have been loyal since then. However, I've lost a lot of respect for the station with the whole Greggo thing. In fact, I switched over to ESPN the other day out of disgust at just another day with nothing mentioned to the people who made their station what it is.

Yeah, you're probably right. A station that is probably one of the coolest radio stories in DFW history is without one of its founding and most popular members, rumours abound of a drug scandal, tension between hosts that we always thought were really close friends, and no one on the station will say anything definitive. Nothing much to discuss here. We're a bunch of idiots.

they have stated many times that they can't say anything due to legal matters, but that when things are all tied up that they will reveal everything

Greggo was the WORST broadcaster on the Ticket and maybe the metroplex. He couldn't come up with any sports opinions. All he had was his one liner comments about girls that we liked. His sports opinions changed every 10 seconds based on what Rhyner or somebody else said. He couldn't carry a show on his own. No way any serious sports guy like Galloway would hire him. The Ticket/Hardline environment was the one and only place Greggo could have any success and he BLEW it.

Sounds like something a goofy chick would do. They've gone as far as they can legally and have addressed why they can't say more right now, and when presented with an opportunity to give more information (like when Greggo spoke with the Observer and made more info public), they brought it to the airwaves. They aren't doing it out of spite; in fact, I'm sure not being able to say much is driving them insane thanks to all the yahoos calling and emailing them all the time about it. I'm sure they'd LOVE to air every bit of dirty laundry so folks would finally quit asking.
