Donny needs to find a new dentist. He must go to one of those scammy corporate offices. They almost gave him braces without him agreeing to it after mentioning it was a possibility last time and he told them no but he'd think about it.

Agreed. I never knew it was a thing until 7-8 years ago when my office was bought out by a corporate office and then the first time I went in they told me a had like 4-5 cavities, etc. Something seemed weird, so I found a solo practitioner, and I had no cavities at all. After talking to some other people, the same thing had happened to them at different places.

i was told once i have 14 cavities.
i had no insurance so i didnt fill them.
I get my first job years later and go to the dentist thinking the worst.
no cavities. i tell the dentist what they said and he sai, "Sounds like someone needs a new boat.".
i still haven't had 14 canaries filled in my entire life.
I feel like that's a stigma dentists have had my entire life.

True, but I think it is much more rampant now. I think it's a combo of skyrocketing cost of college/student loans that some of these folks need to pay off, a lot of growth of corporate shops like Ideal Dental driving revenue focus vs the old sole proprietor days, and basic dental insurance paying scraps for cleanings.

I mean, I had a dentist 20 years ago that it was like going to a damn time share presentation.
About 7 years ago my dentist (been going to since circa ~1978) retired and sold his practice. Booo!
It was like that episode of Happy Days where The Fonz's barber passed away.
Anyway... went to the new owners for a while, but stopped since it was a commute from Collin Co. to Denton.
Found a local, patient-first dentist after researching on neighborhood's social site.

One of the tenants of my business park opened up a practice about 5 years ago, and I did him a solid and booked an appt.
He quoted me over $4k in work.
Went back to the dentist I've been using for a decade, and he said I was fine.
The sell job by some practices is frankly borderline…like a TRT clinic.
