Contrary to popular belief the Houston A&M club recognizes the potential for growth in cypress. They also see potential in the west side and the woodlands area. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. The trouble is finding people who will consistently spearhead the effort. You don't need the HAMC's blessing to have a happy hour or gathering. What they can do is spread the word. I used to be involved with a cypress area happy hour once a month and we could get about 20 people to attend many moons ago. I have been very involved with HAMC and know they would like to get the 12k plus ags involved with their programs and cultivate cypress. Go to Houstonags.org. contact Clint smith (current pres) to organize an event. He will get it on the web blast to spread the word. I have lived in the cypress area since '98, and agree getting together is a great idea for the common cause, but don't believe there is a need to create a club just for happy hours or gatherings. You would need to have a president, vp, treasurer, and board members if you want a club..... It is hard enough to get a steady happy hour/gathering going. The HAMC will support and do everything to help getting something going out here. On a different note, suck it up and drive thirty minutes and go to coach's night in July if you can make it. Forget about the drive and rember it is about giving scholarships. If you live in cypress odds are you drive thirty minutes anyway..... Traffic sucks..

Another thought regarding this club is these are going to be people who are not participating in the Houston A&M club. We live 30 miles from downtown and have our own identity. Without a Cypress A&M Club the AFS is going to be missing out on these people participating (and donating) in any manner. There is a lot of difference in the idea of having the Houston AMC sponsor an event "in our area" and the "owning" the club ourselves. I'm guessing the outreach and functions would be different given the demographics being more married with kids as opposed to youngsters just out of school.

There is a reason that a post asking if there was a club in the Cypress area led to the idea to form a Cypress club with 4 pages of responses in just 5 days.

For me the club is not about happy hour. It's about having muster near work and home. Having networking events near business owners/execs in my market area, etc.

We had about 30+ people show up last night at Goode Company to sign the petition/charter and to elect officers and board of directors members. We all agreed that we wanted to have our own club because this is a community of ags that wants to give back and promote the university. This is not about Happy Hours, BBQs, and watch parties. This is about a group of ags in the area that wants to contribute to the university. We were already discussing scholarships, community service, and other ways to get involved. We set up, imo, some great leadership that has some great ideas for moving us forward. We are planning on encouraging as many members as we can to buy a spot at Coaches' Night and drive into town. This club is legit, and I can't wait to see where we go from here!

I hope we can get a good turnout from this area for Coach's Night - it's a great event.

This is my second year on the leadership committee for Coach's Night. Just FYI - the website is updated with the most current information, and tickets are on sale now. It will be held at the Westin Galleria, so it's at least somewhat closer to us than it was last year. We're hoping to have a big turnout this year because of the move to the SEC.

Couldn't make it, but agree with Marauder. I would love to go to Muster out this direction. Can't make it into town in time. After you drive home, get the wife, and then get a babysitter for upwards of 4-6 hours.

With the demographics of Cypress, the Muster (and other events) we would have would definately be more Family oriented. I think bringing the kids to an Aggie Muster BBQ would be fantastic.

I'm too close to the other side to see why you could not work with the current structure. I agree a muster and other events would be well received out here. The club never could get the volunteers to stay committed like you have now so these events just never happened. Hopefully this time will be different. See ya at coach's night.

Yup, we are well on our way. We know the potential hurdles in front of us and have taken steps to solve those issues. We already have the required signatures and are seeking to gather more before we send them in to the Association. We have also elected officers and board members. I feel confident that we will be recognized by the Association in very short order.
