Haha, while I agree with the heart of the sentiment (that I have gotten rid of pieces that were kinda' what I need...) luckily the Reverso actually is a GMT.

Im sure this has been discussed AD NAUSEUM on here, but I would like to hear some opinions. Thinking about buying a new "higher end watch"

Im a bit basic, so nothing too out there but considering (1) Omega Speedmaster Professional, (2) Omega Aqua Terra, (3) Rolex Oyster Perpetual. (all black dials)

I wear casual to business casual everyday. Wear a suit once every two months.

Thoughts on the above? Different models to consider?

Collection
- 1942 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Bubbleback (inherited from my father, It doesn't run and needs serious work, actually...now that Im thinking about it....any advice here?)
- Marathon GSAR
- Hamilton Cross Wind
- Hamiton Field Khaki Mechanical
- Tag Link (bought right out of law school)
- Gshock Rangeman

For me, of those three, it's 100% the speedmaster.

This. For me, when the Speedy Pro is an option, it's the only option.

LOL, Speedy lovers are really speedy lovers.

Im just trying to figure out what the next piece should be in my modest collection. I just don't think I can do a Rolex...there is just SO MUCH BAGGAGE with that brand.

I am one of the weird ones who doesn't get the Oyster Perpetual. Rolex has lots of cool watches that are worth paying the "Rolex premium", but to me there's nothing about that one (or - gasp - the Explorer!) that warrant paying double the price or more from other "everyday" sports watches.

Honestly you might even look at the newer version of the Longines Conquest. It may be that it's close enough to the Aqua Terra that you could pocket your savings and come back in a year or two and get the Speedy too...

But if it's just down to Aqua Terra vs. Speedy, then welcome to club Omega. It's a good club. Seems like the next tier step up from your current collection. Two very different watches so you'll just have to daydream about both for a few weeks or months and see which one you find yourself gravitating harder towards.

Agree on that Longines. Very sharp and just a step below the aqua Terra

With your collection, I'd go with something little more dressy with a white face on a leather strap. I like this Baume & Mercier Classima.

I'll disagree on the Speedmaster and suggest the new Seamaster Aqua Terra with the rolled link bracelet. I love the look of this bracelet compared to the traditional flat link.

I also like that new bracelet

That is definitely a sharp watch.

That is real sharp as well. (And definitely something I considered...I don't have a white face dress watch). My only concern is that I just don't wear a suit everyday. I don't wear a suit every month. 90% of the time, im in jeans or chinos. Not as much opportunity to wear it.

Milgauss or railmaster?
Something that's cool but looks boring from 5ft away

I think it'd be versatile enough to wear every day, not just with suits. It's just something different than black face/metal bracelet.

You could also go with something more understated and dress it up with different bands.

Yes, but you don't get the factory warranty card. Your warranty is through them.

So, two follow ups.
(1) is there a good local place to check out any of these watches? (And, buying at a discount… 8,000 is a lot for a speedy, but looks like you can get new from ADs on chrono24 for about 6.5k.

(2) is there any talented rolex repair guys around? I'd like to talk to someone about repairing my 1942 rolex.

Thanks. As a watch newbie (stumbling onto this thread last year is gonna end up costing me a bunch of money), how big a deal is this? I'm not looking at anything too crazy but there's a Nomos I like that they have for $1,000 less than MSRP.

For something in the sub $2000 range I wouldn't be concerned at all. Just my opinion

Edit: or even 3k, 4K. I probably would think twice if it was a $15,000 watch

it's not a big deal at all not having the factory warranty card practically unless it's an "in-house movement", but it cheapens the feel of the watch to me for some reason, but i'm a weirdo. To be honest though, we're all kind of weirdos to pay 4-5 figures for mechanical watches, when the Apple watch ultra is the absolute pinnacle of wrist utility at $1,000 or so.

Probably not that big a deal. But if i were buying an Omega or Rolex secondhand from someone i would want the card. Or would only be willing to pay less.

Yep happy to help with the speedy. Thanks everyone for the comment.

I can't really beat $6500, because my discount I can offer is 18%…but mine would be fresh from the AD. Also I think you pay fees and taxes through chrono24.

No fees other than shipping if applicable on Chrono24, but you do have to pay state sales tax. It would put you under Chrono24 all-in.

I was fishing around to see if you could help me out. Not quite ready to pull the trigger. Need to try one on (and see if I can forget about it for a month...if I can, saved my self some money...if I can't, then Ill be trying to run you down.

Would much rather work through you than Chrono or anything like that.
