If you're in Houston go to Zadok. They usually have a good amount of Omega Speedmaster and Seamster variants in stock you can try on. Once you know what you want, I'd definitely work through FTAC.

A exhibit at the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg. It came from the USS Ticonderoga.

The omega boutique in the Galleria is also pretty helpful and happy to pull out watches to try on.

Don't think of it as spending money. If you buy at the right price you're just swapping cash for an asset with a liquidation value equal to what you paid. The net is you're no better or worse off after you buy the watch than you were before, or at least that's the story I tell myself to take the sting out of it.

lol! Well that's not saying much!

Also, learned what "spidering" is today. Apparently that's a cool thing, but I just thought the face was cracked!

Im sure this has been discussed AD NAUSEUM on here, but I would like to hear some opinions. Thinking about buying a new "higher end watch"

Im a bit basic, so nothing too out there but considering (1) Omega Speedmaster Professional, (2) Omega Aqua Terra, (3) Rolex Oyster Perpetual. (all black dials)

I wear casual to business casual everyday. Wear a suit once every two months.

Thoughts on the above? Different models to consider?

Collection
- 1942 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Bubbleback (inherited from my father, It doesn't run and needs serious work, actually...now that Im thinking about it....any advice here?)
- Marathon GSAR
- Hamilton Cross Wind
- Hamiton Field Khaki Mechanical
- Tag Link (bought right out of law school)
- Gshock Rangeman
-

I have the Omega Aqua Terra and a Rolex Milgauss with the black dial. I love them both. I don't have the traditional bracelet with the Terra though because I think a normal bracelet actually deadens it. I have it with the rubber(? - I don't even remember what it is), but I love it.

I'm guessing there is a few thousand dollar difference between the Terra and the Rolex though so that seems like it should count in decision.

I like the Speedmaster but this board is so horny over it that I don't want one now.

Where are you located? I know someone is Dallas who could service the vintage Rolex, but whatever you do DO NOT take it back to Rolex for a service.

I like the AT on rubber. I really want the rose gold with the blue dial and blue rubber strap.

Why's that? I had a vintage one I took to them a while ago. It still doesn't run right. Curious if there's something to know here…

There is some truth to this depending on what you buy. I bought a sub in 2009 and sold it 11 years later for basically even money. Made an easy decision when I was offered the Skydweller. When I walked out of the AD I knew if I wanted to I could flip for more than I paid for it. Instead I enjoy wearing it.

it does seem to have gotten really popular really quick. Wonder why?

(Maybe the swatch x omega collab?)

It's been popular on here for years. I think maybe newer posters have not seen it discussed as much because it's an old topic, in a way.

For the price point and craftsmanship of a luxury watch, Omega is pretty amazing.

My three luxury watches are SMP300, Speedmaster Professional and Seamaster AT.

These suit my current lifestyle and cash flow. I may get. Rolex when I retire from the Army.

For now, I'm an Omega man haha

If any part needs replacing and a modern part will work they will use it. If anything is not factory original they will either refuse to work on it or require you to replace the non factory part with a replacement part regardless of need.

Too many independent people/shops who treasure vintage and have the skill set to work on them vs the factory folks who are focused and trained on current run pieces.

perhaps it's also the newer models? Seems like there is more internet chatter about it in the watch circles. Or Maybe I'm just looking closer. Who knows

that's a nice collection you got there!

Rolex, I mean, for the new ones, there is just so much baggage. Of the new ones I've seen in the wild, I've never thought "oh that's a cool watch on a cool dude". It's always, that dude is a d-bag (and they usually are). And the watch way to bling.

There some good Rolex, don't get me wrong.
