The chief, by the way, is terrible at those press conferences but the constable handled it very well. But he should have turned it back around on her and asked how many times she asked for details about this case but not the dozens of cases in the past year that went relatively ignored by the media.
Why do hundreds of people get murdered or go missing in the inner cities and nobody in the media seems to care, but one rich white guy goes missing and the media loses its mind? It's not the cops treating these cases differently, it's the media.
And the question about the cost of the investigation was absurd. Suspects don't have to provide resitution for the cost of investigation, and everyone in that room knows that. The same goes for all the dumbasses asking similar questions regarding the OceanGate sub & the coast guard. The police's job is to investigate missing people, even if they ran away & weren't kidnapped. The coast guard's job is to help find missing people at sea, even if what they did is considered stupid by many others.

I think it's more about how society values people from certain classes over others, much moreso than race. This board was VERY interested in the black dude who went missing in the Heights and ended up in the ship channel, because he was relatable and seemed like a relatively normal dude...had it been some bum or crackhead, people wouldn't have been nearly as interested.
