Humans are disgusting creatures. The amount of trash I see floating around Houston is bad, but man, over in Africa and southeast Asia, they truly don't give a ***** It's horrid.

I don't make Houston out to be a Utopia but I like it here, however it really makes me sick to see the amount of trash all over the place in Houston. Even around nicer areas people seem to be just fine with tossing trash around and it seems to get worse every year. And it's similar in lots of the state.

Maybe we need to bring back the old "Don't Mess With Texas" commercials with Willie, George (Strait and Foreman), The Fabulous Thunderbirds, ZZ Top, and the like because too many trashy fckers seem to have no compunction about littering. Pisses me off.

I was at tennis lessons with my kids this spring and some group had just had a cookout or some other event in the park and left it absolutely disgustingly trashed. One of the other dads lived around the corner so he went and grabbed some trash bags and we cleaned it up outside of the piles of leftover food and scraps strewn about. I simply don't understand why people would go to a public space and literally just throw their trash in the ground.

One of the litterers must have dropped a $20 because I found one while picking up. Pretty sure that was the world rewarding me for going out of my way to clean up the local park after the heathens. I truly hate litterers.

The ads need to be in a different language now.

It was pretty stark and eye opening when the quiet little oasis park near me was apparently discovered by the apartment dwellers. Like overnight, trash everywhere. Even with trash cans mounted everywhere so you wouldn't have to walk more than a few feet to dispose of your beer bottles, beer cans, and cigarette butts.

The park had a good run of low traffic and quiet cleanliness.

I recently went to one of the parks in Lumberton which has a huge field, playground, fishing pond and creek, skate park, playground, splash pad and more and it was the cleanest park I have been to in ages. Well kept, quiet, everyone was friendly and respectful, clean. I guess the underclass doesn't cross the Hardin county line. Will definitely be going back. Felt like what I imagine a small town in the 50s felt like.

I've seen so many people say on Twitter the lack of storms is due to climate change. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Saw someone post something questioning climate change because of being off on the seasonal hurricane forecast on one of the Weather Lib Matt Lanza's tweets. He replied to it saying something to the effect of climate change doesn't factor into seasonal hurricane forecasts, but it's real. I didn't want to spend time digging through all his old tweets, but I swear Lanza was beating the drum that climate change was the reason for the hurricane forecast being so strong this year at the beginning of the season. These people have no shame.

Isn't that the same CSU that predicted a big uptick in hurricanes this year, contributing that to global warming?
Quote:

As shown on page 2, CSU's forecasts for the 2024 hurricane season were extremely aggressive, calling for one of the busiest Atlantic hurricane seasons on record
Quote:

However, since that time, the Atlantic hurricane season has gotten extremely quiet. The Atlantic has produced no named storm formations since Ernesto on 12 August. Only one other time in the satellite era has the Atlantic not produced any named storms between 13 August and 3 September. That other year was 1968. This pronounced quite period is especially remarkable given that it coincides with the time of year where the Atlantic climatologically gets very busy (Figure 7).
Quote:

As noted in our recently-released two-week forecast, we are anticipating below-normal activity over the next two weeks due to both unfavorable Madden-Julian oscillation conditions and a relative lack of tropical cyclone activity forecast by the ensembles.

Those people can EAD with their fearmongering and false religion

reality is reality

it can't be broken

your models are bad and impossible to validate in advance of the time period you need them to work within

Models can't predict what's going to happen in two weeks, but we should bankrupt the global economy based on what models predict a hundred years from now. Gotta love it.

I wish I had 100 stars to give out! Why normal people can't wrap their minds around this and just "trust the science" regardless of how crappy it is, is maddening.

Which caused June 2023 to be the most ungodly humid month in my life down here in the RGV. Multiple days of heat index readings over 120 which almost never happen even in the hottest times of the summer and I think we had like 6 in a row in June.

But yeah, our atmosphere and weather is way more complex than can be reliably and consistently predicted by our current models. They have REALLY improved forecasting strength and location of tropcial systems inside of 3 days compared to 20-30 years ago but we still have a ways to go for longer term stuff.

And this is why all the climate change initiatives are so ******ed. We spend trillions and earth takes a dump on our chest while staring us right in the eyes. Sure wish logic would prevail when it comes to all of the stupidity.

Modeling is a great tool to gain insights, but often times the assumptions in the model don't match the real world. Often times these differences will be small in the short term, but the longer a model runs, the more a small short-term error will propagate into a large error over a longer time horizon.

Don't forget the ban on bunker fuels that removed polution from the atmosphere causing "unexpected" warming, especially in surface temperature, as well.

From the SpaceX thread. I don't want to hear about climate change ever again.

That's all smoke and mirrors man. That huge burning ball of hydrogen up there that provides us life has absolutely nothing to do with global weather or temps.

How much you pay in taxes is the mechanism, and the more you pay to rich politicians, the more they promise to control the cosmos on your behalf!

Fine the ever loving ish out of litterers, and make traffic tickets and what not have to be paid off by picking up litter on the highway.

It would at least be a start. Maybe.

100% this, at least this is a huge percentage of it.

It amazes me in a sad way whenever we go down to the beach and see the trash left behind. Pop up tent frames have got to be among the worst. And 90% of them and the rest of the garbage and trash are left by a certain demographic that comes from south of the Rio Grande.

There are times where I don't think I'd be bothered at all if the state decided vehicles on the beach were a no-no anymore. That would fix almost all of the problem overnight.

When it comes to the bays, the freaking Asian oyster harvesters have zero qualms about leaving a trail of debris and trash in their wake. The rest are the whiskey tangos and other tangos that use boat ramps and other public access areas to dump water heaters and couches and what not.
