I don't make Houston out to be a Utopia but I like it here, however it really makes me sick to see the amount of trash all over the place in Houston. Even around nicer areas people seem to be just fine with tossing trash around and it seems to get worse every year. And it's similar in lots of the state.
Maybe we need to bring back the old "Don't Mess With Texas" commercials with Willie, George (Strait and Foreman), The Fabulous Thunderbirds, ZZ Top, and the like because too many trashy fckers seem to have no compunction about littering. Pisses me off.
The ads need to be in a different language now.Quote:

Saw someone post something questioning climate change because of being off on the seasonal hurricane forecast on one of the Weather Lib Matt Lanza's tweets. He replied to it saying something to the effect of climate change doesn't factor into seasonal hurricane forecasts, but it's real. I didn't want to spend time digging through all his old tweets, but I swear Lanza was beating the drum that climate change was the reason for the hurricane forecast being so strong this year at the beginning of the season. These people have no shame.Sea Speed said:
I've seen so many people say on Twitter the lack of storms is due to climate change. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
CSU has issued an extensive discussion of the 2024 Atlantic #hurricane season to date, including some reasons behind the recent quiet period. https://t.co/Bz6j7BgufN pic.twitter.com/HY5wjetjcA

Quote:
As shown on page 2, CSU's forecasts for the 2024 hurricane season were extremely aggressive, calling for one of the busiest Atlantic hurricane seasons on record
Quote:
However, since that time, the Atlantic hurricane season has gotten extremely quiet. The Atlantic has produced no named storm formations since Ernesto on 12 August. Only one other time in the satellite era has the Atlantic not produced any named storms between 13 August and 3 September. That other year was 1968. This pronounced quite period is especially remarkable given that it coincides with the time of year where the Atlantic climatologically gets very busy (Figure 7).
Quote:
As noted in our recently-released two-week forecast, we are anticipating below-normal activity over the next two weeks due to both unfavorable Madden-Julian oscillation conditions and a relative lack of tropical cyclone activity forecast by the ensembles.
The Atlantic tropics are completely broken, unable to produce tropical storms even w/off the charts "climate fueled" oceans.

Our models no longer work, forecasters can't figure it out. This is not normal. pic.twitter.com/Jdeva9B8Pc
I wish I had 100 stars to give out! Why normal people can't wrap their minds around this and just "trust the science" regardless of how crappy it is, is maddening.BQRyno said:
Models can't predict what's going to happen in two weeks, but we should bankrupt the global economy based on what models predict a hundred years from now. Gotta love it.

I'm guessing it has a LOT to do with the underwater volcano event last year
Don't forget the ban on bunker fuels that removed polution from the atmosphere causing "unexpected" warming, especially in surface temperature, as well.PJYoung said:

No, it's notcone said:
burning hydrocarbons is an existential threat to the species
but we can't build nuclear plants to bridge the energy gap that would come from transition. no reason why outside of its scary and gives certain groups the ick

Not kidding. When you use a clay that is excellent for building roads, it is **** for growing vegetation without very regular watering.
That's all smoke and mirrors man. That huge burning ball of hydrogen up there that provides us life has absolutely nothing to do with global weather or temps.Bondag said:From the SpaceX thread. I don't want to hear about climate change ever again.Sea Speed said:

This is easily one of my cleanest time-lapses I’ve managed over such a long period. Enjoy! pic.twitter.com/v6Gsy3OH7k
