Since we moved to the burbs (Oak Forest), I have to settle for the La Viva Wednesday night special....

But, back to the OP. We just don't eat out much anymore. Partly because of crazy prices. Partly because we have a 3 year old and 5 month old and it's just easier cooking at the house.

Yeah.

Stays pretty busy. They've done a good job creating a cult following in the neighborhood so seems people are always posting about it and how good it is on facebook.

We've been a few times, it's pretty good, it's not El Tiempo prices, but it's not cheap either. Always a good crowd in there.

The quality goes down the further you get from the OG (Richmond).

We go to the Navigation location sometimes and it's fine. Wednesday Dom's fajitas special is now like $49 but feeds all 4 of us but my daughters stuff themselves on chips first. CostCo gift card special also takes 25% off the total.

We don't want Mexican food, we want Houston TexMex as God intended Mexican food to be.

Tacos Dona Lena is good.

I've seen Tecate on Ella mentioned before but there's no way my wife will go there. Is it actually good and halfway clean?

Wow...that place is still open?

My boss back in 1996 loved to go there, Enchiladas Rojas every time.

don't think this one 'failed', just Ronnie wants to own the land where he runs his restaurants, and I think he wants to focus on Pearland steakhouse now that his health is good again.

dude has made stupid money, it seems, so I guess not a big deal to reduce his footprint

Yelp reviews can be hard to go off of because someone my tank the ratings because they didn't get enough ice cubes or something stupid like that.

La Hacienda is hidden back there behind Lowes. Haven't been there in years but I think it was good.

Prob bc it's Stafford and the wannabe sugar land crowd is ok with dog sheet chain locations.

For sure. I like Millie's, but its $100 easy when my wife and I go for 2 drinks, and appetizer, and 2 meals. It's good, but not exactly fine dining

Seriously? That's kinda funny. I haven't been there in years, but it was just an ok, cheap little taqueria/cafe. The abuella at the register never gave me no trouble.

And I don't go by yelp reviews, it's only useful for pictures of food.

Something ironic about Austin county dwellers seeking out laidback vibes at an upscale city stq-house.

Have you had the "we don't need a date night 70 miles away just so you can NOT impress the girls in your circle you're trying to impress" conversation yet?"

there is nothing ironic about someone driving from austin county to a damn good steak house on the west side of houston to eat a nice meal considering there are basically zero options in Austin county to go somewhere to eat a nice meal.
You may have to drive alittle bit over a county line, but The Wine Bar at the Grand Fayette Hotel, the Jon Perez Lounge in Round Top, and Magnolia Society in Columbus are all good options for being halfway to San Antonio. Haven't tried Lucy's Pie House in Sealy yet to give an opinion.

Dang. Didnt expect random counties taking strays on a restaurant thread.

I agree, the food is solid at those places on most occasions. However, not a true steakhouse type atmosphere as STQ was. FWIW Royers in Round Top has a damn excellent filet. 22 North in Bellville isn't bad if you want something nice and upscale.

Lucy's in Sealy is terrible unless you like average food for Vic and Anthony type prices. They will be closed by the end of the year if I had to make a bet. $20+ for a burger that doesn't even come with fries. GTFO.

Tecate is good for breakfast. I wouldn't eat there for any other meal. Breakfast taco plate and a spicy Michelada. When my daughter was a baby, the penciled eyebrow Tias picked her up and took her in to the kitchen so the Abuelas making tortillas could touch the little blue eyed baby. I think my boot toes grew three sizes that day.

La Hacienda is trash.

La Viva is actually pretty good. We've been a couple times now - very Pappasito's derivative, and I do like that they've doubled down on the neighborhood involvement, getting local HS kids to work host stand as first job, etc.

Why aren't y'all just going to Tony's? Moved west of town so now it's Los Tios but loved Tony's when we were in Garden Oaks.
