In San Antonio, everyone drives like they have nowhere to be.

I think what makes Houston so frustrating is that we the infrastructure. Most big cities are way behind Houston when it comes to building or expanding roads (Atlanta, I'm looking at you). It sort of puts the crappiness all on Houston drivers. In Austin, for example, you can sort of blame the infrastructure for making drivers crazy.

Nope. Austin and Charlotte have Houston beat.

Charlotte????? Come on man!!!!! I lived in Charlotte for a couple of years and it felt like they didn't even had "freeways"!!! Loved my time there.
This was back in 95-96 though.

A lot has changed in Charlotte. Go drive up 77 today and see what you think.

As someone that had to work near and in Houston and has moved to west of San Antonio, I'd say this statement is absolutely correct.

I see road rage events every time I drive. The last one was a traffic jam where some yahoo would let a truck guy merge at the end of the lane, you know, where educated people are supposed to merge, and that guy just kind of rammed the car, then they started throwing stuff out their windows at each other. I enjoyed the show, but how a firearm wasn't introduced, I don't know.

That was yesterday evening. Then on the way home was the same general frivolity with a guy who boxed in a car and wouldn't let him pass. Then he proceeded to brake check this guy for 1 full mile. Eventually the dude in the car just drove off the shoulder through the ditch and got around. It was something else.

The slowest driving city i ever lived in.
No one knows what the left lane is for.
Every time i go back i'm astounded at how badly traffic moves there.

This dude was definitely not driving slow. He was in such a hurry he passed three cars over a blind hill with a double stripe and then hit an oncoming truck head on. Then the car caught on fire with him trapped inside. So he got to see how two departments used all of their fancy extraction devices equipment to get him out and he got to take a super cool ride on a helicopter to the hospital. I don't think he got to his appointment on time.

This might be self-selection/selection bias, but the Houston area has some of if not the worst drivers in the country.

According to the stats

  • Albuquerque, New Mexico, tops the list of cities with the worst drivers, followed by Memphis, Tennessee; Detroit, Michigan; Tucson, Arizona; and Kansas City, Missouri.

No. Houston doesn't have the worst. Houston might require more of its drivers than the rest of the country, but that doesn't make them the worst.

Albuquerque for SURE is bad af. My dad lived there for 15 years. I visited him at least annually if not more than that. He wasn't the -best- driver but was raised driving in Houston so he was fine by most standards… He was constantly amazed he hadn't been killed in traffic. Red light running specifically.

After driving to and from Dallas this weekend, I'm convinced the whole state has the worst drivers.

Every other car we passed had some sort of major damage. Not just old beater cars either, but newer expensive cars, too. I'm talking fenders and bumper panels flapping in the wind (like they were about to peel off), bumpers smashed in, door panels scraped and/or pushed in. It was so frequent and obvious that my BF and I talked about it (and agreed it's no wonder car insurance rates are so high).

The cost in both $ and time to get cars repaired is why cars look more beat up then they use to. This is a problem that lags but builds. Auto repair will be a nice business after the bounce back.

Entire state of Maryland can't drive. You can haul ace north on 95 through the south, but the first time you start seeing MD plates, typically around Richmond/Fredericksburg VA, traffic just grinds to 40 mph or less for the next 2 states. They dont teach them that the left lane is the fast lane. And just pray no one gets a flat tire, thats a stop all trafiic event even when they pull waayyyy off onto the shoulder.

I'd wager slow drivers/left lane pokers/pple who enter freeways well below current speed are responsible for more accidents

Tesla drivers just seem to be the new entitled dbags of the road.
With Tesla drivers you're gonna get the 2 ends of the driving spectrum. You are either going to encounter a dbag who thinks he has the sportiest car on the road or you are going to encounter a driver who hates driving and will be going 10 under at all times and taps the brakes because a car merged 150 yards in front of them. The later is the former prius drivers.

Don't know that I agree with that. You'll see Tesla drivers that will do aggressive things because their cars are quicker and better handling than pretty much any other sedan. But I never see them just weaving in and out of traffic like crazy like you do a Charger or Camaro.

I never really see Teslas doing 10 under like that, but you probably will see weird braking from the autopilot/full self driving from people that use that. The default for FSD/Autopilot is to use the speed limit, but the driver can override it to go faster. I think the max is setting at 85 or 90mph.

If you pull out in front of me and I slam on my brakes you're in the wrong. If you do it regularly because your car "is quicker and better handling" than you're a dick.

Doesn't matter if you can zoom away after I slammed on my brakes.

What's been a bigger problem for you, a Tesla or other performance car pulling out and then accelerating quickly or people pulling out and not accelerating to traffic speed?

Because I drive a ton and have yet to encounter a Tesla pulling out and accelerating where I had to slam on my brakes, but I probably have to slam on my brakes or change lanes daily for asshats that pull out and don't accelerate to the flow of traffic.

Anecdotal, sure. But I have WAY less problem with someone that quickly accelerates to the flow of traffic than someone that doesn't.

I don't know what it is about Austin that makes all drivers become the inverse of old school Houston drivers. I remember when I was at A&M, any time I would drive to Austin and cross into Travis County all the cars magically went from going 5-10 over to the fastest driver now going the speed limit. I had a HS friend who went to UT and when he was back for the summer he carried over his Austin driving habit to Houston and I was scared we were going to die as he was going 10 under on the left lane on a Houston freeway.

You are crossing the whole western and southwestern suburban ring of the greater Houston area. Cinco Ranch, Seven Meadows, Bella Terra, Long Meadow Farms, Harvest Green, Aliana, New Territory, Telfair, and Imperial.

Those Tesla drivers have bought those vehicles as toys. You can do that stuff when you have a lot of disposable income.

Of course they don't know how to change a tire.

I will say one thing. 99 has the most Tesla drivers I have ever seen in my life. Houston area suburbanites love Teslas. I don't get it. They look weird to me.

Give me a loaded Expedition for the same price as a Model S.
