I am moving to Randall County in the next two months. (Yes, I know it is farther from Kyle Field, but Southwest flies from Amarillo to Austin!!!) On a more serious note, I was wondering if there is any rental property in Canyon (nice - not college style). If not, what apartment complexes in Randall County (southern part of Amarillo is within the border) would you reccomend. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

It is far from Kyle but it is easy to make ou and tech. As far as rental property in Canyon, ther are a lot of houses open now. Apartments are not excellent in this town if you don't want college type housing. There are some new ones being built in southern Amarillo on Soncy, but I don't know the name of them. I would suggest getting a Canyon paper and look at houses.

What brings you to Randall County?

There are a limited number of duplexes and fourplexes around Canyon. Some of these are pretty new, I'm thinking of those on 28th street near SE Park.

As far as the apartment scene, I'm guessing the one down in Hunsley Hills is about the least "college" available in town.

For those looking for "college" type settings, there's a huge new complex being built NE of the WT campus, called Collegiate Station.

Looks like one of those "private dorm" setups.

As far as south Amarillo, I'm not sure. There are tons and tons of new homes being thrown up in that area, but I can't think of a lot of apartments.

I'm nosy, too. What brings you this way? Depending on where you work, we might have some different suggestions.

EDIT: I just remembered. We have some friends living in a very nice townhome. I could find out who handles that if you cared.

Thanks for the great suggestions. I am coming in November to look and so this will give me a great starting point. CanyonAg, if you could find out the managing company of the town homes that would be great. As for why I am moving to Canyon - I would perfer to keep that on the downlow until I formally accept which will be in November.

I am also looking to get involved with the local A&M Club. I want to become involved in the community and I have found that to be a great outlet in the past.

Thanks again for your suggestions and if you know of anything, keep me posted...you can also e-mail me at tx2003aggie@yahoo.com if you hear of something great. Thanks & Gig'Em!

The Canyon A&M Club manages Muster...and that's about it. There have been lots of tries to get more events. but low numbers and busy schedules really hamper things.

Since you are younger, you might connect with the Amarillo club to socialize.

I haven't cared about apartments up here for many years, so I was a little surprised at what all is out there. A selection from our phone book, all area code 806.

Canyon Apartments: 655-6192 Manages 12 different apartment in Canyon, and some single-family homes.

www.canyonapartments.com

Wirtco: 655-8080 debtardy@tcac.net Manages 3 different apartments very close to WT.

Several others are listed, most are college type.

Apparently, the management at Canyon Creek Apts. at 50 southridge, manages some townhomes. But I never pay attention to the names, so I don't know where they are. Canyon Creek is 655-6911.

One sort of oddball place, but might be good, is the Caslin apartments. This is an old single story dorm that was converted into 1,2, and 3 bedroom apartments. It is just across the street south of the Panhandle Plains Museum on 4th Avenue. 651-5800.

I'll check on the townhomes where our friend lives later. I have no idea what they are called.

As a general guideline, there are no horrible parts of town. I'd be alert if I were looking north if 4th avenue, but south of highway 60. On the west end of town, this puts you close to a very busy set of high-speed railroad tracks. On the east end, you have a lot of WT students/traffic.

The extreme west end of town gets to be less expensive properties. To the extreme southeast, you get close to the high school. On the north, cross highway 60 and you're in one of the nicer areas, Hunsley Hills. Further north than that, you get into Canyon North, big acreages and big expensive homes. There's also a very nice area in the south central part of town, between Conner Park and the Junior High.

There are some new apartments as mentioned above off Soncy (southwest Amarillo). If I can help you out in your move let me know.

I would suggest The Remington. That is probably what the above poster is talking about off Soncy.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I should be in Amarillo by mid-December, which is great because I will be closer to my family for the holidays. I will be there in a week and a half to look at housing and all the suggestions have been wonderful. I even showed my family how to look at the post and they were amazed at how the TexAgs.com network works...I said that's just an informal extension of the wonderful Aggie Network. I am ready to get there though and would appreciate knowing about any December/January events for the Amarillo Club. Thanks -N- Gig'Em! Oh and BTHO ou - I will be there yelling my lungs out for all of you that are too far to make it. ;-)

Even though I've had some personal disputes with the Canyon News, I suggest stopping by there.

They usually have copies of the local phone book available, and there are always several homes and apartments for rent listed in their ads.

I think they have city maps, as well. If not, the chamber of commerce is nearby.

Also, they put out a yearly supplement on the community. It features lots of local ads, of course, but has features on schools, churches, sports, history, attractions etc. etc. All in all, its a pretty good guide to the community, and they usually have extra copies year-round.

EDIT: Just remembered, if you go into south Amarillo, one of the big 7-11 type stores is called "Toot 'N Totum". They usually have a big rack of newspapers and free publications. I've often seen Real Estate and Apartment guides available there, and they are nice stores.

The two southernmost TnTs are at Soncy road and 45th, and on south Bell at Hollywood (near Randall High).

Thanks for all your suggestions. I ended up finding a dupex in Canyon. The apartments in south Amarillo are not grand - very small and expensive for the size. I am ready to get moved and will see everyone soon!!!!

BTHO tu!
