CanyonAg, Eric and I are probably the only ones here who can remember what the world was like before Star Wars (that does seem like a long, long, time ago ...)
We probably rented the same dinner jacket to our respective senior proms: powder blue with wide black velvet lapels, and an enormous black velvet bow tie ...

Rented tuxes did not make their way to HCHS proms until well after my time. They were there by the time my wife taught at HCHS in 1985.
Most of us were church kids, and one still wore suits and ties to church at that time. So we were taken shopping for a new suit to wear to church, and we debuted it at the prom.
Most girls wore their prom dresses to church the next day, too. It was also before the day of over-the-top and risque prom dresses.

Mrs. Estlack made us spell it Bronchos when we were in Jr. High. And she cried when the Jr. High went from red to maroon. I still tell people I was in the Broncho Band.
Croakies - the Lynx were the source of my class' most memorable spirit sign: the lynx come from a long line of weenies. They used it every time we played y'all. Football, basketball, whatever.

It was always strange that the Jr High had red jerseys.
But I am sad to learn that that has also changed.
Bronchos was an old cowboy/western way of spelling it. Because it was Clarendon, we wanted to keep the history of our town.
But the English teachers of the time in HS said it was mispelled and worked to change it.
They succeded.

Losing Mr. Estlack still makes me sad. He gave me a lot of grief about being an Aggie over the years.
They said, at the time, that the switch from red to maroon was made because it was more cost effective to have hand me downs in athletics than to have jr. high specific uniforms and equipment.
