The Roby High School girls basketball team has advanced to the state finals playoff game!

Do not make light of this development. It us a matter of great interest to citizen of west Texas counties for ---- particularly if they have ever set foot in a Roby schoolhouse.

Former students of Roby High in the past 50-60 years will make their way into the Super Drum in Austin to cheer the team to victory. Many will not recognize other celebrants. Ten members of my family will be at the game and they have not attended a game or been within 50 miles of a game in 50 years.

That is the magic of small west Texas town sporting events. Town pride endures over the generations and brings folks together.

This is that makes West Texas small town and their people so special.

Feel free to join with us in celebrating this stroke of good fortune.

If you encounter a Roby alum today do not hesitate to congratulate him/her on the accomplishment of the girls basket ball team.

Winning the State Championship has been a dream for the town for many years.

The crowd last evening in Austin included many Roby folk of the senior cizen persuasion who ventured out for one last hurrah for the old school. It was a grand night of celebration for all ages.

Fossil were you at the game? I went with my parents and had a great time. It was nice to see people from back home that I hadn't seen in a while. Congrats to the Lady Lions!

Mel. I did not attend the game but several generations of my family did. It was a grand time to renew something in the human spirit that had not been rekindled in years.

It is a magic that works on the hearts of the old and young and permits all to relive a shared momment of glory. For a moment we all feel like champions.

I will not explain that to others.

Congrats Fossil!! Ms Huey would be proud.

Kingfish, you would not believe the number of times the number of times the names of Lena Hueuy (sp) and other coaches from the early 1950s were mentioned in talk of glory days of the past.

We were there. We lived those times the first time around. It was great to have a second time to enjoy the moment;

Sorry I botched the spelling, couldn't remember how she spelled her name. She and my dad were great friends and also fierce comptetitors, they did a lot of the foundation work together in organizing gir's basketball in the state. Looks like you are on the board more now which I take as a positive sign of your improvement...keep it going.

always had a bit of animosity against Roby. GF in high school scrapped w/ the Lakey girls plenty in district BB.



Kandra went on to have a good career @ ASU.

i think she batted .500 against them. If you remember the Robert Lee teams in the late 90's and early 2000's... i dated the MVP for a short time. Great gal.
