I moved here a year ago.

I can say it's definitely a transition, but so long as you get involved in SOMETHING you can fit right in quickly, be it church or what have you.

Live north of Wadley. The closer to Midland Drive & 250, the better. The Palms are a rip-off. The Clusters kick ass.

There are about a dozen golf courses in the area, a few private CC types, a few Munis (Hogan park is a very good value if you can get a good tee time and are up enough to get out before the heat & crowds hit), and a few semi-CCs with lower rates for members.

A Nationwide even is held out at I think Midland CC every year.

As far as bar-type deals around town, The Ranch has a lot of pretty good Texas Country people pop in and out, but avoid the non-band nigths there. Unless you like to witness stabbings. There's also a nice hole in the wall place "The Bar".

Cigar Frogs & Hemingway's kick ass.

Overall, at first I hated it here, now it's grown on me and I kind of like it.

Moved here in 1989, love it here. Great place to live and raise a family. If night life clubs/bars are high on your priority list, probably not the place for you. Lots of options for golf, good resturants, etc. Several new apartment complexs where I'm sure there are lots of young professional types. All north of loop 250. I grew up in Houston area, lived in Dallas area after graduating. I much prefer Midland since I hate the traffic and crowds of Metro areas.
The longer you live here, the more you will like it.
If you like sports, we have AA Midland Rockhounds (Oakland A's) baseball, Midland College basketball one of the best in the country, professional hockey and Indoor football in Odessa. J. Lane playing for the Roughknecks this year.
If you move here, give it a chance before you judge it.
The Midland A&M club is very active, especially with the younger Ags.
Oh yea, you will find that tech grads really aren't that bad. Most of my friends are tech grads.
