My cousin is graduating on Friday and supposed to start her job in Karnes City on January 2nd. So far, she's having no luck finding somewhere to live. She's just out of college and this is her first job so she's not looking to buy a house, she just needs a decent rental home or apartment. Anyone in that area that can offer some advice or suggestion? Thanks in advance!

Karnes City is near Beeville, certainly in South Texas. I'd suggest calling the Chamber of Commerce. If they don't have that, call the Courthouse or Tax Assessors office. Just explain the situation and ask for a suggestion. It's a pretty small town but the people are very friendly. My cousin is from there and my brother in in Beeville. If there's nothing in Karnes City, rent in Beeville (about 20-30 miles away) until she can locate something closer. Try Kennedy.

Thanks, I'll suggest the CoC thing. The crappy thing is that her job is with the county, so she's required to reside within the county but they're apparently not being very helpful about helping her find a place....

Please call Country Village Apts. at 830-583-9042. You can also call the Pontiac Dealer at 830-780-4441. The owner, Marvin Witte, has some rental houses. I was given some other suggestions but they involve people's names and personal phone numbers that I'd rather not list here. My cousin is Ann Franke (fran key) who is the tax assessor. She said if you'd call her office 830-780-2431(M-F 8-5) that she would give you the other numbers. Karnes City and Kennedy are about 5 miles apart and Kennedy will have more places available. Ann also suggested that you might call the ISD for each town and ask if they know of any places that teachers have been renting and are possibly moving out. Good luck.

To us oldies, Kenedy and Karnes City are old friends. Before the expressways through San Antonio, everyone from the valley avoided driving through San Antonio like the plague. You had to drive through downtown and it was a maze of streets. Instead of this, most folks used to drive around San Antonio and go through Kenedy and Karnes City. (Alice to Kenedy/Karnes City to Seguin to San Marcos).

I need to drive that road again, it has been many years. (My girl friend/wife went to school at SW Texas - or whatever you call it now).

My little sister lived in Karnes City for a while. It is pretty rural and I don't think she liked it much, but that basically depends on you. When you are getting started you don't have a lot of options. After you get some experience, you will be able to look in some more attractive locales.

Employed Ag,

Thanks SO much! My cousin is going to try calling everyone tomorrow or the next day. I really appreciate you going the extra mile to look into it for us, it will be a huge weight off her shoulders if she can find a place soon.

I thought I was old school because I remember when 281 was a two lane road all the way to I-37.

BTW that sucked back then. Time your passes over hills. Yuck. No wonder it took like 4 1/2 hours to get to San Antonio.
