Was down in Corpus over the weekend. Drove around downtown saturday morning and was really surprised how awful the building looked.

Grew up in CC myself. Went to Miller and grew up on the Westside. My parents sold their home there about 12 years ago and now live out in Calallen - Robstown area.

Corpus ain't bad if you ain't used to much.

The city has enormous potential, always has. The problem is the mix of people who live there. As someone mentioned earlier, CC has a huge bunch of retirees who's biggest concerns are that their taxes don't get raised and those damn kids stay off their lawn.

In addition you have a dearth of young, energetic people who create the kind of energy that makes a town thrive. You just don't see the driven, hustling 20 and 30-somethings who are on their way up. They're all in Dallas or Houston. Your typical Corpus native grows up there, goes off to college and doesn't come back until it's time to die.

The city can't even quite get the tourism thing right; can someone tell me how Sea World wound up in San Antonio? It not like CC didn't have plenty of room in the North Beach area for it. And South Padre has become the hot Spring Break destination; 30 years ago South Padre wasn't jack.

There's no better analogy for Corpus than the old Nueces County Courthouse. It's a stately building that's been sitting there , empty since the late 70s, rusting and falling apart in a city that either can't or won't do anything about it.

Yea the comparison to the old courthouse is spot on. For the record though, the reason they don't fix that is because the seashell they used to mix the concrete is corroding the rebar in the concrete. Would be way to expensive to fix. They have redone one hall/section though

Really, you can only catch so many fish until it becomes old hat... And if you are looking for classy women good freakin luck! They are all married, or are bsc with 15 children of all different colors on 17 different men (don't ask because I can't figure it out either!)

All in all I would prefer any place else!

I actually watched a girl (on the beach) dig a hole, crap in it, and burry it! Just like a cat! Seriously not kidding!!! If you can call this normal well Corpus might just be the place for you!

Was talking last night to a friend of mine from Corpitos. She and I both considered ourselves successful because we left Corpus after high school and never returned.

olarmy69.

Grew up on Longview East in what was then called Eastgate Heights. Most of the homes built in the 20s to 40s. Nice neighborhood, mostly retirees who kept their houses up and the grass cut. My Southside friends were shocked when they saw how nice it was. As often happens of course, the retirees died and the new owners (generally first time buyers) let the houses go to seed. Told my folks it was time to move when I came home to visit in the late 90s and saw a car in the street up on blocks.

You've got a few years on me, but I went to Oak Park and Driscoll too.

I think the bottom line here is that Corpus sucks.

Where are the best places to fish if you don't have a boat.

Hey Moe:

Oak Park elementary, Westside Rec Center,Oak Park park Driscoll good times.

CC was the place to grow up in the 50s and 60s.

Ride the bus downtown for 5 cents and watch the saturday movie got 50 cents at the Ritz or Centre.

I moved away from CC in 1960 and entered as a fish A&M in 1965. I am walking across campus in 1966 and spy my back door neighbor Small world.

Moe you can tell my age when I tell you we thought the big city was upon us when we saw the Harbour Bridge constructed and saw our first freeway.

Live in Houston area now

Moe I went to Mapquest and I walked down your old street to Driscoll each morning. Stopped at Saxet drugstore and bought a 10 cent cherry coke if I had the money.

The flower shop is still operating on ORRoad but Saxet Center is dead. WoW

Yeah, that shopping center died a horrible death. When we moved to CC it had a Biel's Grocery and Saxet Pharmacy in it. Now that whole block has decayed.

BTW, I'm amazed that flower shop is still there. Back in the day my parents said that the woman who owned it had a daughter that was in the New York Ballet or somesuch.

One of the great things I remember about living so close to Buc Stadium was you could hear the Miller Band practice every afternoon in the fall and hear the roar of the crowd and the fight songs play from the other CC school bands during the games played on Friday and Saturday nights. My bedroom was on the second floor of our house facing in the direction of the stadium and I could see the lights easily and when the clouds were low the crowd noise and music would bounce off of them and it sounded like I was on the 50 yard line.

Man I miss that house.

I would have loved to be there then. The Miller games in Buccaneer Stadium then were nothing short of epic with the Bucs usually state-ranked. I read about one game playoff game in Buc where all 18,000 seats in the stadium were filled and the crowd broke thru the fence outside and stood on the track to watch the game. The story said the total crowd that day including the gate crashers was close to 20,000.

Yep good times. I could go on and on talking with you about CC or C squared as we use to call it. You speak of the Ray Miller game. As my old mind remembers in 59,60 or 61 Ray and Miller alternated going to the state finals.

Band music was loud even from my neighborhood. Do you remember the Frank's Spagetti House on leopord across from the rainbow bakery.

8 years ago it was still in business. I finally went in and ordered only to be disappointed. never ate there as a kid b/c we were poor.

Talking about the games at Buc stadium, One of the 3 television stations would televise the game. KVDO ch 22, KRIS and KZTV.

Driscoll was televised several times on Saturday mornings. Yes CC was a big town with a small town atmosphere.

I believe they now play some games at a football facility at Cabiness Field.

Franks is still there. My family used to eat there all the time. Gonna try to make it there when I go down in August.
