Out near highway 84 and Hewitt Drive. Opening in August. All the services of a hospital ER, with labs, scans, etc.....you can get admitted to the hospital if need be. But a shorter wait, as they only take cash and insurance.

Yes, we have a bit of a vested interest there, but it's a relatively new trend and they are all over Dallas and Houston now....it'll be nice to have one in Waco.

yes df...the only thing left of that area is the church on the opposite corner, where the kids waited for rides and got into trouble for throwing rocks at one another!

FYI, the last game at that football field Mr Lewis was announcing the next morning demo would begin and with it 50 years of Midway memories. I went back after everyone but the track walkers were gone and took a loose step at the 45yd line.

If they are not cheaper than the emergency room, why bother. If you had to go to the hospital anyway at least you would be there if you were already at the emergency room and got checked out. If you're at this place, and something needs to be done fairly quick then you're out twice as much because you still have to go through it again at the emergency room.

I should know what I'm talking about. I had a bleeding ulcer and a friend suggested that I go to the one in Hewitt. I bypassed that and went straight to the emergency room and was admitted to intensive care because I had lost so much blood so fast. Moral is, you might not have enough time when something critical is involved. I'm glad I did it that way. I barely made it into the emergency room. Anymore time and I might not have made it.

On the other hand, I can see that this might have a demand for a niche clientele.

This is totally different than the urgent care deals out there. They will be able to do anything a hospital does. It is NOT an urgent care primarily. It is a full functioning emergency room.

the urgent care center in Hewitt is a DOCTOR'S OFFICE for people who want to wait in line there instead of at an ER....nothing more!

I "think" they can do xrays maybe some minor blood tests but like any other office or small clinic the majority of their work is sent out.

Soooo, will this place have ambulatory service and will the docs have admitting privelagea to prov/Hcrest?

I'm just trying to figure out how this place will operate when a gunshot victim come rolling in and they need to admit to a hospital or they can't handle the severity?

I think it's an innovative idea , I'm just curious how it works.

I'm kind of with SS...the concept "seems" good but I hope they have thought through the kinks.
The location is good for community convenience in that there are fewer Medicare/Medicaid patients but the locals that need more than sutures or a splint, maybe a cast will head to the hospital ERs. They are also the patients who can pay for these services no matter where they go and THOSE services are done at their doctor's offices unless it's a weekend. So they don't accept Medicaid but are they private and can they legally refuse care to the uninsured who show up...say with a GSW to the gut or head? Will they accept a patient that has Medicare AND insurance? Will they bill both for the patient?

If care was the primary concern why didn't they buy property say, north of Waco where there isn't ER service at all? Kind of concerned that this will be a super snooty place and they will refuse service and all hell will break loose. If the ER works then they can add a private hospital to it...and we're back to the physician owned community hospitals of long ago.

Long, long problems between Hillcrest and Providence and the Waco medical dislike of S&W so now they are opening an independent ER to further the competition. There have been disgruntled docs over infighting and complaints of indigent care/being stuck with the bill.

I know the docs involved (one is my wife). They won't be snooty.

These places have been successful in other places.

And they can't legally refuse treatment to someone who comes in with a life threatening condition.

the ERette will be in Woodway...the snooty will rub off..........the good thing, she can bring the kolaches from West instead the staff!

Woodway wouldn't need to be snooty if we could keep the people from Waco and Hewitt out.

I don't, but they may still be letting some of that out....on their website there is a contact link....wouldn't hurt to contact them if you are looking for business.

Woodway has nothing to be snooty about. Far nicer places in mcgregor than Woodway.

Stone creek ranch, hidden valley and sun west all have a mcgregor address. With MISD taxes and city of waco services. I know I live in one of them.

If you have city of Waco services, then you live in Waco.

20 years ago, Waco did it's best at annexing every bit of the MISD that wasn't already in a city to enhance their tax base.

That's because China Spring doesn't have the population of Woodway & Hewitt. The hospitals fled out of the center of Waco towards people with more money and insurance.

I'm sure Providence did very well with most of the uninsured going to Hillcrest until the new one was opened.

Pretty pompous statement. Better check your home values in Hewitt compared to China Spring.

I wasn't disparaging China Spring, it's a very nice area, but it doesn't have the population that the Woodway & Hewitt area does.
