I thought they we're replacing the gates. Whatever they are doing they've been doing it a while now. Seems like a drought is a good time to do it. Also I think the money has so be spent before you lose it. Tax dollars are funny like that.

Nope replacing the stilling basin. You can only do the work when Congress appropriates the funds (which for us is a two year cycle, budgeted for in FY 13) and then you have the contracts in place. Neither knows the limitations of the weather, drought or flood.

Gates were replaced a few years ago.

Of course a drought is a good time to do it but we've been in one for a very long time. Quite a coincidence it would seem.

Hopefully they can hit a good 7-day strength and can start releasing.

Bump to keep on watchlist. Dis could get interesting.

LT is only between 11 and 12 feet below "full".

The tropical storm coming in could make things very interesting.

BTW, Lake Whitney crested well over 20 feet above normal.....parks still all closed through the summer.

So I wonder if my daughter's beach soccer tournament in corpus will still happen 12 days from now?

Still 20 feet to go before it goes OVER the spillway, but the lake is just a few feet shy of reaching the bank of the spillway right now

Depending on the trajectory of this storm, the Leon basin could get very little, to 6", or anything in between

The forecasts shifted the path a little west this afternoon, which means things could get VERY interesting at Lake Belton if it pans out

I'm not. But I am glad I bought the trip cancellation insurance thru HomeAway. I guess Bill is headed for Galveston instead of corpus. I just watched a forecast video from KCEN and Hillsboro could get 7" of rain? I hope that's wrong.

Well heck, fox is tracking it for corpus.

Captain Pablo

Yeah, which means areas west of I-35 should get some of the rain bands

Keep an eye on the areas around Gatesville, hamilton, and Fort Hood

Things could get interesting out at the Belton Dam

These weather channel people seem more concerned about DFW.

Yeah, probably because they are a metro area of 7 million people that is about to get 8" of rain

forecast right now have bell county getting anywhere from 2 to 8" of rain as well.

There will be a fine line between very high amounts and much lower amounts, and right now that line runs N/S west of I-35

Just have to see what path it all takes after it hits land

If the path veers west, that line could shift and run through Coryell, Hamilton, and NW Bell counties, which of course is the basin that drains into belton lake

Right now it looks like the rainfall in Belton and Temple may not be too heavy, but the flooding risk, as Pablo said, comes from rains in the west. Hard, fast rains out towards Killeen are dangerous for Nolan Creek. Rains northwest will cause the lake to rise further.

I've seen on Facebook Belton Lake is releasing water.

At full release it lets out about 3 inches a day. Last I heard they couldn't open all the way due to water levels down stream

It seems they picked a bad week to release water, but what do I know. I've been expecting torrential rain since 4:30am. I guess it will wake me up around 2am tonight.

According to the Weather Underground weather station that's about 1/2 mile from my house, we are just under 3" of rain since midnight. However, I noticed when taking my dog on his morning walk that my neighbors apparently don't think that was enough water for their yards.

Throwing back to the thread title, it appears the storm stayed just north and east enough to miss the Colorado River watershed lakes. Quite a shame. Buchanan needed it, not Belton.

Colorado R. above Buchanan was slightly elevated last night, so Buchanan may come up a little over the next couple of days. Might make it to 998

My rain gauge is at 3". Small lakes are forming in the low spots in my yard and my driveway is a lazy river of water running off into raging rapids in my side yard. I can't tell if I see a leaf floating or a minnow swimming.
