It will take several days, but Buchanan is about to come up

Colorado River at Winchell rose 20 feet last night, and is still rising as of 7am this morning

This is the one the Buchanan folks have been waiting for

Wow looked at the LCRA Hydromet data....some places have had 8-9 inches in the last 24 hours in the Buchanan watershed.

The Colorado at San Saba is predicted to crest on Thursday THIRTY FEET above today's level

Yeah, Buchanan is about to come up

LCRA is predicting Buchanan will rise 3 to 6 feet over the next week.

They tend to be pessimistic with their predictions

I bet it comes up closer to 6' than 3', and maybe more than 6 feet. That's a big damn wall of water coming down

Then again, Buchanan is a big damn lake!

That latest prediction is off the board as of noon, as there is major flooding expected upstream

Gonna be interesting to follow over the next few days

"Perfect Storm" for the Buchanan watershed

I lived in Llano since about the mid to late '80s. I can't seem to remember a time that the lake came up more than maybe a few feet after any given storm, but maybe my memory is failing me. I believe there was a time back in the early to mid '90s that you could drive out to Shaw island but don't remember if the lake was filled rapidly or slowly after that.

I guess if anyone can recall times when the lake rose significantly, please share. I grew up fishing on that lake, and I'm trying to jog my memory as to when there were significant rain events. I do remember a few times stopping to watch the water flow from some of the flood gates, but again I can't recall specifically when that was.

I have heard stories that, when the dam was completed, it was thought it would take a period of years for the lake to be full. However, some of the older folks in the area said it took less than a year and most of the filling was completed in a matter of months. Maybe someone can verify?

Yeah, it takes a lot of rain in any given storm to raise that lake, but this one is pretty extraordinary, and it just kind of came out of nowhere.

The Colorado at Winchell is going to crest more than 30 feet over yesterday's level

I would not be surprised to see the lake come up more than 6 feet by next Thursday or Friday

River at Winchell didn't crest as high as they predicted.

I still think it's enough to get the lake to 1003+ by next Friday

How do I know It will get to 1003+?

I dont. Just guessing...

It took a while to get there but it looks to be on the increase now.
Captain Pablo

Yeah its coming up

Latest prediction I saw was a 5-8 foot bump, which is pretty damn good for a single storm

That would put it between 1003 and 1006.

Hard to believe that would STILL leave the lake well below normal July levels of 1012, after all this rain since March.

Still Will be in much better shape than it was when it was 986!

1004.11' today. Up 6 1/2' from the storm

Colorado R. at San Saba is coming down but is still elevated, so Buchanan will come up some more...

Couple of things -- Buchanan is at 1006' this morning

Also, it looks like they can let a lot more than 3" of water out of Lake Belton Per day

The Lake is down over 11 feet since they opened the flood gates up. Down over 5' since 7/4

Parks are startng to open back up, which is good news

Is that all just runoff filling Buchanan? I don't recall any recent rains.

All of the rain that fell in the Brownwood area 10 days ago. There was a line of storms out there that dropped close to a foot of rain in some areas over a couple of days.

They bad a major rain event last week

Anyway, Buchanan made it to 1007 this morning. That is a 9+ foot bump from the recent "perfect storm", and is about 21 feet above November 2014 levels. Been a great 7 months for Lake Buchanan. Crazy that it's still 5 feet below normal, but is in much better shape than it was.

Belton is below 598 this morning, so about 4 feet above normal. They have let some serious water out of that lake over the last month.

Sounds like it's time to put some lines in below the dam. Should be able to catch a bunch of nice cats.

Let's not and say we did. I'd like to make it home safely from Oxford Sunday. Looking less and less likely.

wow, please be careful on your trip. I've been off for ten days, and had planned a Port A run, then this started. Early last night, I thought about loading up for Oxford.

This storm may be a once in a lifetime event. I've been sitting on the beach in South Padre Island when a tropical storm rolled. Back then, I had AM/FM in the '74 Cougar and didn't want to run the battery down.

On another thought, just looked, they changed the Oxford forecast to cloudy

I think the official total at the Waco airport is really close to a foot so far. Looks like the rain will finally stop in a few hours.
