My inlaws are looking to sell their 2000 Jeep Wrangler (sorry, I don't know enough to know what "J" that is ) and are looking for an estimate on value.

I know these pics kind of suck, but assume the engine, A/C, etc are sound and it runs good. Mileage is 243k as shown.

Any thoughts?

$5000-7500 depending on overall condition. (A/c work, body damage, paint condition, interior condition, tires etc)

97-06 = TJ

The frames tend to rust if it spent time up north, but should be fine if it is a TX Jeep.

Where is it located?

Thanks.

It's currently located at Lake Buchanan. They have pulled it all over the country behind their motor home, but other than that it has lived in Texas since they bought it new.

Full disclosure, I'm interested in it as a hunting lease vehicle, but didn't have a good idea of what it's worth (and neither do they). However, if I don't end up with it, I will post it here.

Well, I showed a little interest in the Jeep to use at the deer lease, and my in-laws offered to sell it to me for $3k... so now I'm a Jeep brah!

My first question... it has a hard top that has never been removed. I'd like to take it off to drive around our neighborhood, but have heard horror stories that once the top has been removed, you'll get lots more wind noise and maybe even water leaks. Is this accurate, or just an old precautionary tale?

It's a Jeep. Wind noise and water leaks are normal.

Get a Bikini top, find a nice spot to store the hard top.

Take the top off, take the doors off and cruise!

I haven't played with one that old, so I don't know all the ins and outs….but I'd probably start by taking off the top and just checking all foam/seals on the tops and just make sure they look good. I take the top off/doors off my JT almost every weekend that I'm home and it's between 65 and 85 degrees.

TJ's and all Jeeps have excessive wind and road noise even with the tops on. Take the top off and enjoy. Go safari style with no doors and a bimini top. Our Jeep is garaged so the top hasn't been on it in years. I definitely recommend a ceiling hoist to make it a quick and easy 1-man job

You can turn all that faded plastic and hard top black again using a fiberglass restorer. I forget the chemical name. Wish I had never sold my jeeps. Enjoy!

Thanks for the info, guys. I'm gonna take the top and doors off soon for sure. I'll also look into fiberglass restoration products for the black plastic parts. I understand this thing is almost 25 years old and has over 240k miles on it, but it's still new to me so I want to have it looking as good as I can.
