Share the best buying experience you've had. Really hope this thread can avoid dogging on bad dealers and experiences and highlight the good ones out there.

I'll start: In the height of the 2021 auto shortage, we got pregnant with our 5th and had to upgrade our minivan. Decided on an Expedition Max, but there wasn't a lot of inventory out there. Spent a few hours over a few nights with Google Maps going down random highways to find small towns and look up their local Ford dealers and look at their Max pricing. You get pretty quick at looking through the inventory on the ford sites and I probably looked at 120 locations.

Narrowed it down to 3 or 4 Expeditions that had the best options at the best price. First call was to Holiday Ford in Whitesboro about a Platinum they had. Called the sales guy and talked about the online price and what extras and fees were included. Probably talked for 20 minutes and came up with an 'out the door price' and I told him I'd think about it. Called him back and told him I wanted it, but shipped to me, which added $300 or so. Sent me the paperwork and we were off to the races. Of course, their finance guy wanted to talk about extended warranties and financing, but they didn't push too hard.

I never met my sales guy, and we probably talked for less than an hour total but I was super happy with buying from him. They trailered it about 350 miles to us (I think they made a mistake on the cost to ship due to round trip, but they ate it). And the car was awesome…. For a few days, anyway.

About a week after we got it, a kid blew a stop sign and totaled our car about 200' from our house. Every airbag went off. Wife was pregnant. It was pretty scary, but the Expedition did its job. I never even got to put gas in it. It took a little time to work through insurance, and I called my sales guy for some advice in that process and he helped me a lot. He ended up finding me a King Ranch Max to replace our totaled one. Once again, we probably talked pricing for 20 minutes. He was straight up and there weren't any add-ons.

So 2 Expeditions over a couple months and both great experiences. Thanks Holiday Ford and Shawn for the service!

What you got, AB?

Truck is a hot pile of garbage now, but when I bought it I had an overall good experience with Cavender Chevrolet in Weimar.

I was looking for a new work truck but it was near impossible to find a 3500 single rear wheel but they had one. Turns out it was an ordered truck that the guy declined to pick up. Had to pay sticker and the financing dept was dragging for some unknown reason but no add ins or hoodwinks getting the deal done and were fair on the trade in.

Itasca Ford - no longer in existence. There were maybe 3 total employees, it was super chill. They had the vehicle ready when I pulled up. Zero pressure or typical shenanigans. They just handed me the keys and told me to take it for a spin, spend as much time as I wanted, and come back when I was ready.

Came back in, agreed to the price with no hidden garbage, agreed to trade in value with everything calculated out in the open. Paid cash, was back on the road in less than two hours from arrival. Tried to buy from them again a short while later and they were no longer open.

Carmax (believe it or not) - met a "car guy" who worked there at the time, so I gave them a chance. I'll admit, the experience is completely dependent on who you work with, and in this case, I was basically buying from a friend. So maybe this doesn't count.

For service, Sewell Audi North Houston is about as close to consistently 10/10 as I've ever experienced.

My last two purchases were great.

Brian Toliver Ford in Quitman. Negotiated whole deal over text/phone/email, showed up and signed the paperwork. They offered some add-ons, and dropped it when I said no. This is a small dealership in a pretty big group, so I don't know if the bigger shops would be the same

Classic Kia in Beaumont. Same as above, except they drove it to BCS and we signed the paperwork in my kitchen

Mine happened yesterday.

I posted on the Keating thread how bad they were with the Keating Auto Group Apex addendums. The Waco Hyundai flat out told me the $1895 Apex and $995 CPO were non-negotiable, so I walked. This was 12/24/24.

Asked for a price at Northwest Hyundai in Houston, not realizing it was a Keating. They also were non-negotiable in their $3997 Apex and $1800 CPO. Stated "we don't remove addendums." This was 12/26/24.

Didn't even waste my time at College Station Hyundai after reading FLATOUT's comments on the Keating thread.

Yesterday, I compared Hyundai SUV's to other makes. I came across a Volkswagon SUV that I liked. I sent a couple of inquiries out in the DFW area as well as Austin.

I had a couple of back and forth emails with Hewlett VW in Georgetown. Requested an out the door price. While hesitant to provide, she stated that "You won't pay for anything you don't want."

Living close by, I decided to visit the dealership. I walked in and test drove the specifiv SUV I saw online. The saleman asked if I wanted it, and I said, yes, let's discuss walkout pricing.

He came back with a price that had addendums, $499 tint, $399 floor liners, $X paint, etc. He stated that these were negotiable. I said remove them and provide an updated price. He came back with those items removed, but was still above what I wanted to spend. Next, I wrote down my "Final Offer" on the sheet. He went to the sales manager and came back and said we have a deal. Sales price minus all rebates plus TT&L. Nothing else was attempeted to be "snuck" in on the contract.

The whole back and forth negotiation process was 5-7 minutes max.

They performed the credit application, cleaned the SUV, filled the fuel tank while I was signing documents. Drove out a short lime later.

Also a recommendation for Tommie Vaughn Ford in Houston. Bought a 22 Bronco Sport in April 2022. MSRP and no markups. Already had financing, and was in and out in 30 minutes.

Hewlett and Tommie Vaughn was a night and day difference from Waco Hyundai and Northwest Hyundai. I will never step foot in a Keating Dealership again.

Jan 2010- Maxwell Ford in Austin. They advertised 11k off all F150's with the chrome trim. I show up and the only one with the 6.5 ft bed didn't have that package but they took 11k off anyway. I know I lost some on my trade in BUT nobody else was coming close at that time to 11k off.

Mid 2023- Tommie Vaughn Ford. Received a quote on a demo STX at a pretty good finance rate. Drove to Houston and they looked at the 2010 and asked why it was showing a "major accident" on the history. I had an expensive hail claim that required a new roof and hood. In and out in probably an hour and a half.

Audi Central Houston was pretty painless when I bought my Golf. List price of the car was very reasonable so I didn't negotiate much if at all on it. When they tried to tack on additional fees, they were easily waived without much effort.

Most difficult was buying my F150 from Joe Myers. Truck was listed above market value and very reluctant to waive any fees. I walked out on Day 1 and ended up negotiating with the GM via email on Day 2 by responding to one of their BS auto generated emails lol

This was many years back probably 2006ish, dad and I were looking at used cars at grapevine Sewell. Noticed a Miata that seemed to be priced extremely low. We made a deal on it and shook hands, on the way to the finance office they realized they had the price for a Mazda protege on the car instead of the Miata.

The GM said it was their mistake and let us take the car probably 3-5 thousand less than what it should have been sold for. They 100% lost money on that car and I got to drive a 6spd Miata for several years before my dad eventually sold it for more than we paid.

I had a good experience buying my Navigator from North Park Lincoln in San Antonio. No slimy tricks or mandatory add-ons.

I also had a good experience buying a Titan from Garlyn Shelton Nissan in Temple. Again, no slimy tricks or add-ons. Did the whole deal by email, then they delivered the truck to my house in Magnolia fully detailed and we signed the paperwork at my dining room table.

This month-Classic Ford in Galveston. Looking for F250 and only a limited supply of 2024's on the lots in the area. No one coming off the 2024 prices. I ordered a 2025 for less than the 2024's on the lots. While selecting options he also found I had a $2500 personal offer from Ford. Did not get a screaming deal but one I am very happy with (if you can be happy paying that much for a truck).

Same dealership. Two people I've worked with over the past 20 years. I won't buy from anywhere else and I'm 3 hours away from them.

I'm a dealer so I I won't comment on my own stores or try to tell you how great they are. I have interacted with the majority of franchise dealers in Texas at one point in time in my professional life.

I love the Kahlig group as a whole (North Park stores). Huffines in Dallas as well but the North Park stores are hands down my favorite.

Repro's stores in Brenham are also very nice people as are Tommie Vaughn.

Caldwell Country Chevy was very easy to deal with on my last truck. Made the deal over email. Only add on they proposed was an optional extended warranty.

Pippen in Carthage is the same way for buick, chevy, gmc. Bought a few there. Very straight forward with no pressure. Super nice staff. Now they have tire warranty plan plus nitrogen. It was cheap and I usually add the discount tire certs so I didn't bother asking to take it off. I skipped the extended warranty with no push back. I like going there so much I can't really stand shopping elsewhere.

I have bought 3 of the 4 new Fords I've owned from Tommie Vaughn. Awesome experience every time. Only reason I didn't buy my 4th was because it was January of 2021 and they didn't have any STX's at all and I needed a vehicle because my car was totaled 2 days before Christmas of 2020.

My other great experience was with Bud Cross Ford in Caldwell. They had an STX when nearly every other dealer within 200 miles did not. Did everything over text/phone. No add ons. Was at the dealership for maybe an hour.

West Point Lincoln in Houston was hands down the best experience I've ever had.

Negotiated the whole deal via email. They eventually got to the price I wanted very quickly. Then, they drive the vehicle we wanted plus another very similar option just in case to my house about 35 miles away. We liked the one we had originally picked. They pulled out the papers completely filled out accurate down to the penny. We signed sitting in the car in my driveway. Saleslady said congrats, got out, and drove back to the dealership in the other option they brought along.

Was absolutely stunned how smoothly it went down.

I've also had a good experience at Gullo Toyota in Conroe. Negotiated via text and over the phone. Went in to get it and no added pressure to buy add ons.

Red McCombs Ford - San Antonio

100% wonderful and easy to deal with, purchased a loaded F150 Powerboost from them in 2021.

I had pre-printed an online configuration of the truck I wanted and wrote down my price - then went dealer to dealer until I found one willing to take it. No negotiation - just take my price or no thanks. Red McCombs accepted my price after a little hemming and hawing and so I ordered it putting down a $500 deposit. I asked the GM to sign my sheet as confirmation - they told me that was very wise (in general at a dealership) and were happy to do so. That locked it in right then and there - protects me from he-said-she-said BS.

No addons, no pressure, got everything on it custom I wanted when ordering it. 6 months later it arrived - and after I signed the paperwork they came back to me and said I had a $2500 rebate from Ford they could apply and wanted to know if I wanted to come by and pick up my rebate check - that they'd just write me a check out of McCombs (dealer) and get a credit on it from Ford (manufacturer).

Seriously, who does that?

I took $800 of that, turned it into amazon cards and gave them out as thank-you tips afterwords... to the GM, Salesman and Finance guy.

The chip market changed after I ordered it and that's when prices went up $10,000+ if you recall (2021).... so it was fairly smart I did it the way I did.

True story.

Community Honda. Got a new Pilot this year after negotiating everything online. Quick test drive to show us some new features and set up the infotainment system and then signed the paperwork for the agreed upon amount.

Houston dealers wouldn't come close to their out the door price. It's a drive, but worth it!

I also notice that a majority of these positive experiences are from negotiating over the phone or email. Doesn't seem like a coincidence to me.

Tesla and it's not close.

Price is advertised. I configured it how I wanted. Paid the price with my phone via the Tesla app. Car is built. App tells me it's ready. I show up. My car is there. Looked it over and found no issues. I sign "paperwork" digitally on my phone. Phone app turns into the "key" after signing. I get in car and drive off. Didn't have to talk to a single person.

Took all of 5 minutes. It was surreal and how it should be for every vehicle purchase.

You don't need lowlife human garbage like Ben Keating. They are dinosaurs and provide zero value to the purchaser.

Sam Pack Ford in Carrollton has been my best experience. One was a CPO Explorer on Christmas Eve 2009. Walked in around 6:30 pm to look at the vehicle a friend had noticed on his way home and called to tell me about. Transaction completed by 9:30 or so. The second vehicle with them was probably my best. I had called my salesman from the explorer a couple years later and told him specifically what I was looking for and what I was willing to pay. He called me back about a week later with we found it, we had it shipped, and its here for you to come look at. Get to the dealership, he's got most of the paperwork prefilled out with my info from my purchase a few years earlier and we are rocking. I think I left with my next CPO ford less than 2 hours after arriving.

My worst experience (strictly from a time perspective) was also my most recent - Stonebriar Chevy in Frisco took almost 7 hours from the time I arrived at the dealership to finish the paperwork and turn the vehicle over to me. And that was after I had already negotiated and agreed to a price via text and phone calls for a few hours before coming to the dealership.

I actually just bought vehicle from North Park Subaru in San Antonio after my daughter's car was totaled after finals. The car was advertised as 2,500 off. Paperwork was on point. They had three add ons, nitrogen, wheel locks, and etching, told them was not paying for those and they said ok. No other issues and financing was quick with no hard sell, purchased no warranties, etc.

I'll say it's all pretty much a tie if you aren't trading in. Bought a 2015 F250 from Covert, 2020 Ram from Bluebonnet, and a 2023 Acura from Schottenkirk and all 3 had everything done by phone. Showed up and drove out no problem. The only time I've had bad experiences is when I used to try and trade in cars.

Sewell Lexus in Dallas. After being gamed with additional dealer markups and other BS at Northside Lexus in Houston, I was in Dallas and stopped by. The gx 460 my wife wanted was in the process of being delivered and the same salesman called the day it arrived several weeks later. Flew to Dallas the next day and he picked me up at the airport. I was at the dealership less than 30 minutes before leaving to drive it home. No games, no finance office- just wrote the check at the salesman's desk and left after him briefly explain the vehicle. Was summer 2023 but hopefully Greg Perry still sells there.
ETA I sold the same 2016 here so not having a trade makes buying so much faster and better. Other vehicles previously I sold at carmax or to a friend. No more playing the trade in game.

1ags contact at Tommie Vaughn Ford.

Sewell Mercedes in Houston was also great. Ordered a GLE in my wife's specs a few weeks before COVID hit in 2020 and it was delayed until Nov 2020 due to a few parts they couldn't source to the plant in Alabama. When we went to pick it up they double this United $1,000 discount that we had on original pricing, tinted windows and then when I asked about coming off their suggested retail price on pre-paid maintenance to what I found online as the cheapest in US with some out of state dealer, they just said they will match it with no real negotiation. Service there is top notch as well.

North park Lincoln in SA is the gold standard in my opinion.

Repro in Brenham is also very easy to work with.

You guys posting about your Ford private cash offers are lucky you caught it. Many times the dealership won't even tell you about it, then effectively steal it.

Bought a used Audi one time at Sewell Lexus in Plano and it was painless. I've actually never had a really terrible dealership experience. I've bought a couple new/used vehicles from the Ford dealer in Denton as well that went pretty easily.

One time I bought a used Infiniti from the Chevy dealer in Stillwater (of all places) that was simple/fast as well.
