In some states I think there is a property tax on personal vehicles. Iirc he is in California.

Doesn't change my point. In fact, it furthers my point. If I can afford a nice car, why should the government take even more of my money?

Ask yourself why a vehicle is taxed again and again every time it is sold.

I'm potentially in the market for a new truck later this year. Would like either a Raptor (non "R" for cost purposes) or a King Ranch F-150. But also don't know if its in the budget when looking at new or slightly used models today.

My 2013 Lariat 4x4 was $37K. Just wild what prices are today.

My 13 fx4 with the luxury package or whatever was 36k. I don't think I can ever get rid of it because I can't bring myself to pay twice that for a lateral move. Only 90k miles now though so I should be good for a while.

A peculiar piece of news crossed my Facebook feed today from a source I was not expecting. An old high school friend of mine said on Facebook that he had been laid off from his job that he had for 25 years. I learned that he had been a mechanic for a company called Jack Cooper. I did not know who or what Jack Cooper was, so I looked them up. They are/were the oldest and largest auto transport company in North America, delivering new vehicles to Ford and GM dealerships. They were in the midst of negotiating a new contract with Ford when Ford abruptly withdrew from negotiations and exercised a 30-day cancellation clause in their contract. GM quickly ended their contract about the same time, and just like that an 87-year-old business closed their doors and let all their employees go.

I have not quite figured out what all forces are in play, but this is not a positive sign from the auto industry.

Have no idea the meaning or ramifications of this in the industry but am sad to hear this. A long time ago I checked in vehicles at a Chevrolet store and loved to deal with Jack Cooper drivers. They were real pros. Hate it for those guys

I'm sure Ford and GM have other transporters lined up. Jack Cooper probably got too comfortable?

I know little about the company, but it sounds like they were heavily unionized by the Teamsters. That may have been part of the issue. Maybe Ford and GM got tired of paying their union tribute. And yeah, I am sure Ford and GM had a backup vendor for this service, but it may also be because they were planning a significant reduction in demand.

Just an interesting datum.

(Datum or Data point?)

Even if demand drops, doubt it translates to a drop in price at this point. These tariffs aren't making it cheaper to build cars. So I have a hard time seeing them dropping price meaningfully to chase market share.....

Prices may drop but I doubt it will be anything drastic. It probably will be some incentives and rebates on inventory on hand over X amount of days. You can thank the idiots who go car shopping based on monthly payment only. We aren't too far away from 10 year mortgages on vehicles.

Yeah, I've been watching Youtube videos for 2+ years predicting a big, general drop in car & truck prices and it never happens. We have seen a gradual correction from the crazy post covid pricing but it looks like we've generally bottomed out. That sucks because prices for trucks are still absurdly high.

I've been in the market for a Corvette C8 for what seems like two years now. When I first started looks I wanted something around sticker if I were lucky. Maybe a little over sticker if it was optioned the way I wanted. Now I'm seeing even discounts on new C8's and used is looking better and better.
