I know just enough to get myself and anyone within 10 ft shocked or worse when it comes to the wizardry of electricity.

I'm installing 6-in oval LED lights into the new headache rack on the truck.
I figured I would try to experiment with proper connections from the comfort of the kitchen countertop using a bench volt regulator Anyone out there with knowledge on automotive wiring? Who can help me?
I am able to light any one of the four LEDs using the positive and negative leads from the volt regulator. However, the instructions indicate I will also need to ground each light. I'm not sure I understand why I am able to get light from the LEDs without using the ground plug on the volt regulator. This is likely to be something that needs to be discussed over the phone. But maybe somebody can explain it to a simpleton in this format. Any help would be much appreciated.

The "negative" is your ground line. You are just not grounding it to the body at this point.

For multiple lights at the same time you would have all of your grounds to the black line and your +12v supply to all of the leads attached.

However if these are red turn ovals they may have 3 wires coming out. One will be running lights, (dimmer), second wire would be the stop/turning, (brighter), and then your ground wire.

Also as a note attaching these to the turn signals can cause a fault since the new vehicles will see a greater draw and sit it down. I wired mine in through the trailer wiring.

Also if you post pics it will be easier to give advice.

That was very helpful.Thank you.
I also figured out that by marrying all grounding wires from the LEDs and then anchoring them to the truck I am pulling the negative charge from the battery (since the battery is also anchored to the truck) that is required to complete the circuit.

Thanks again.

I was told to avoid the 7-way trailer wires on this 2024 for the same reason (truck computer). We'll see how it turns out.

Interesting. Mine is a 12. F350 so a little different. Also went off the plug that goes up to the gooseneck so didn't screw with the main plug that goes to the bumper pull. But I have the main gooseneck harness in now and don't remember what I did about it. I haven't had any issues though with the boat or dump trailers that way too.
