We bought a 2024 Overtrail back in January that we found with 5000 miles on it. We did not do a lot of research on the different trim levels at the time and some things were surprising like lack of programmable seat/steering wheel memory, but my wife really wanted a white/black GX 550 so we grabbed it while we could.

After driving it for the past 7 months, we have really enjoyed it with a few minor complaints. One is the lack of driver setting memory like I mentioned above. In addition, the relatively small gas tank and limited range is a bit annoying but the larger annoyance is the A/C system. The vents are limited and placed in a way that it's very difficult to get air up to your face. It seems to also take a long time to cool down - no ideal when we have it parked outside in the summer sun. Apparently the base trim is also missing some overhead vents in the back so the only air directed at passengers in the back is from the lower vent behind the center console.

The brake squeal issue is also real, but only in the mornings when backing out of the driveway. The Lexus dealership in Plano has the parts on order for the TSB, hopefully they will be here in the next month or so. We have been waiting 2 months so far.

This is the first Lexus we have owned, previously had a X5 and a Range Rover Sport. I would say the drive is comparable to the RR, although the overtrail is a bit of a stiffer ride. Overall we are happy with her.

The rear seat AC in the Overtrail does indeed suck, but I believe the other trims have overhead vents.

Try this to help your A/C cool faster. Touch the Climate button on the bottom of the main screen and turn off "S-Flow" which is designed to only direct air to occupied seats for some reason. I actually turned off all climate concierge features. It's an annoying system and sucks you have to revert back to old school manual control to make it work better.

Thanks. Yeah, that is the first thing I do when I get into the car.

You have to do it every time? Mine stays off unless I turn it back on.

Yes, its weird. I have to turn it off every time. But if we use my wife's key, it's normally already off.

The more and more I read about all the annoyances, missing features and related on this SUV the less excited I am about it. Had planned to replace my Expedition MAX with one in about 2-3 years so hopefully they fix some of these things that seem crazy out of line for Lexus SUV in the price range.

Sales rep name or initials?
I ask only because I have a lifelong friend that works at that dealership.

Just curious if theft is a concern of these vehicles? Given the price point, desirability and wait would have me thinking an aftermarket alarm is needed.

People who steal a Lexus are usually pretty crafty I would think. Not sure if an aftermarket alarm would do anything.

Just park next to a Hellcat and you're probably not the car getting stolen.

The lack of features on a supposedly "luxury" vehicle is just astounding to me. HTF can it not have seat memory. I think my kid's 2009 Camry has seat memory. It's not automatic based on the key like newer vehicles and you have to push a single button, but it's there. Wife's $35,000 MSRP 2023 CRV has it based on which key is in your pocket and it moves as you get into the car.

My 2023 ES350 did not have a 360 camera and the back up lines did not curve with the steering wheel? Really Lexus? MY wife's 2018 CRV did that but your $50,000+ "luxury" sedan does not?

Acura's do not come with remote start on the key fob as standard except at the highest trim levels. But most Honda's at EX trim level and above do. You can add it for $700 (new fobs and new programming) to your Acura or buy the higher trim level which are $5k - $20k more money.

the new refrigerants don't help at all.

Also, some new cars to increase fuel mileage CAFE ratings will stop the compressor at times to increase gas milage which hurts the AC performance.

On my wife's CRV, she keeps it at the lowest temp setting and, fortunately, the "eco" mode on the engine defaults to off and those two help keep the compressor running. But the new refrigerants suck.

does anyone know of any dealers in texas that don't require a deposit? I am going to westside in Houston this weekend hopefully to put a deposit down, but would like to get on other wait list as well. Just dont want to spread out 10k worth of deposits to make that happen...

I never was on a waitlist and therefore didn't put money down. I learned how to change geographic filter limitations on the new car search websites and I was able to search across the entire US for the exact GX550 that I wanted, and I found the exact one I wanted after two weeks of searching early last year (Nori Green, Saddle Tan leather, top Lux+ package).
It was on a boat from Japan headed for Baltimore, I called them and it hadn't been allocated to a waitlist yet so I got to reserve it right then. I paid for it in full when in cleared customs and had it shipped from Baltimore to me, still with all the plastic protection stuff on it.

The issue with waitlists with Lexus is that the waitlists are regional not national - in west Houston they only search from what comes in to a dozen or so dealerships, which makes wait time long to get the model you want…follow my method and beat the line and deposit entirely!

What kind of wait times are people seeing so far? Need to get my wife to a dealership and drive one but most likely thinking premium or premium plus. Flexible on color but the green is nice.
AustinCountyAg

Put our deposit down today for a premium plus in nori green. We were quoted 6-7ish months. Seems to me from talking to dealerships demand is going down some and wait isn't too bad these days especially if you're flexible with trim/color/etc

Less than 5% of that model is made in Nori Green so the wait can be longer for that color, we were picky and the local dealership last year said the wait would be a year so I took it into my own hands to find one and it paid off. I am seeing more of them, but only some of the colors look really nice.

Read Evan_Aggie's post on pg 1.

Don't understand why so many are so in love with the GX when the MDX is just as good, if not a better daily driver/grocery/soccer family vehicle. More volume, better gas mileage and range, and more features for less money.

The biggest gripe with Acura of us when looking for a new car for the wife was the lack of remote start on the key-fob unless you paid an extra $600 to add new fobs. The EX level in EVERY HONDA has remote start, but the $10,000 more Acura version it's an add feature. Or you can subscribe to the AccurLink subscription for $110yr.

The only benefit to the $700 for remote start, is you get the keep the other fobs so you get 2 spare fobs for $700 which is actually a decent price

The TX is the better comparison to the MDX as both are crossover family haulers for people that just won't get minivans. Acura really doesn't have anything directly comparable to the GX.

Do people put those two in the same category? I think we're in the Defender, Bronco, 4Runner, Wrangler/Gladiator, Grenadier bucket.

GX and MDX are both larger SUV's that are grocer getters. 99% of the GX's on the road will never go off pavement. So yes, they are the same.

Yes most will not do anything off road. No, they are not the same.

They serve the same purpose. Grocery getter in an SUV platform.

99% of the drivers don't know the GX platform is body on frame vs the MDX unibody, GX is all time 4wd, MDX is AWD....so for most drivers, they are the same.

I'd say most drivers do know that, because they bought the GX over Lexus's MDX competitor, the TX

I'm just posting this to get the last word in b/c that's all we're doing at this point.

If you asked 100 random GX drivers (75 of which would be women) most would have no clue what you're talking about (AWD, 4WD, body on fame, unibody, etc.)

The new GX is extremely popular right now. The TX is just a fancy Highlander.
GAC06
How long do you want to ignore this user?

They're largely buying the GX because it looks and feels like a tough SUV. Is that what most people actually "need"? No, but the point is GX buyers didn't want a crossover, so the MDX comparison is silly.

Oh, and the MDX is a fancy Honda Pilot.
SteveA

I mean, the GC is just a fancy land cruiser. The reason people are buying the GC has more to do with showing off than capability.
