Went with Costco last time and couldn't be happier. Drop the truck off, go about your day, then get it when you want. I wouldn't want to wait around at Costco, Discount, or anywhere else. Costco had better prices, too.

This is the way. Buy them at Costco. Take your flats to Discount.

Go to now is to use Tire Rack to purchase and do Discount Tire mobile install. Costs slightly more than going into DT, but way less hassle.

You get similar certs included for free with Tire Rack purchase.

The problem with that plan is if you actually need to use the insurance, DT will replace the tire same day if in stock or usually next day worst case.

Tire Rack, you have to get a pre-approval from them before repairs, you have to pay for the full repair cost out of pocket, and then wait 7-10 days for them to hopefully reimburse you. I don't put much faith in road hazard plans from online tire shops. They have too many ways to weasel out of them

This is why I really like DT, especially in DFW.

I have an oddball tire size (255/85/17) and yet my tires are usually replaced next day.

Doesn't bother me, but I'm sure it does others. I personally don't think the certs are worth it so the "free" option that may not work doesn't bother me. I can also float a few hundred bucks on a credit card no issue.

1) they're not paid commission

2) were you looking at the BFG ATs because they specifically stopped making the previously model as they rolled out the KO3s. Yes, other stores have them in stock but they're not backfilling them at all as they shift to newer model

3) their bonus system is based on store performance which has more to do with profitability and how the manager is managing the store. Total volume of sales is a big chunk but so is managing costs… the managers that have good stores and do this well are rewarded very well but there is no specific kickback from any of the manufactures to any single individual in the store.

ttha...did you work at DT and/or do you own one or something now?

Its funny to see DTs tread 'tool' and practices evolve over the last decade. At point they had this little hand tool and 1-10 number system, that just happened to always recommend replacement to every customer.
Now they have an app on the phone and they just wave it over the tire, always on replacement.

I deal with DT a lot with work. Seems like I've had best luck with the shop on Texas in BCS. Last time I went in to the one in Bryan for a trailer tire I must have had a very new worker. I knew I'd need a new tire because the nail was in the sidewall. I led the entire conversation because he wasn't asking any questions or even looking at the tire. Just had a, "damn man that sucks" vibe to him. When I told him it'd be going through a fleet management company he tried to discourage me from leaving the tire. Didn't know how to spell College Station when he put the work order in. Didn't take the tire out of the bed so I had to carry it and he didn't hold the door for me, which is fine but they usually all do a good job of those small things. Enough for me to notice when he didn't. I had to ask if they'd call me when it was done and he said yes. I never got the texts about my place in line. I called at the end of the day and they had no record of me there. A manager got on the phone and figured it out but seemed annoyed with the worker because the tire had been done a while back. I still have doubts I even got my rim back because he didn't put the work order on it like all the other tires left outside.

The one at Tower Point always seems too busy for us.

Never had that happen other than when I already knew I needed tires.

Has Costco recently reduced the variety of tires they carry? Probably gonna need new ones for my truck soon (275/65/18) and there's only a handful of Bridgestone/firestone and Michelin/BFGs. To include KO3s not being an option.

Slow leak on front right tire and dude starts waving his phone over back tires , which are fine etc. Funny, he thought they all needed to be replaced. Told him I can see and feel plenty of thread.

Yep, that's why I bring a manual tread gauge with me on every trip.
