Graduating from the family truckster next month. I really don't a pickup or another SUV, just a sedan that is safe and gets good mileage and can accommodate me being 6 ft 8.

TIA for any tall driver recs.

A sedan choice is limited. One with tons of headroom narrow it down even more. Plus side is that they are much cheaper than similarly equipped trucks, SUV, and crossovers.

Mercedes
BMW
Lexus
Toyota
Honda
Genesis

All still make sedans.

Infiniti recently stopped their sedans to focus on QX suvs. Rumor is they will return to sedans with something sport like G35 in future.

Google AI says Mercedes and Genesis have most headroom.

Personally if I was shopping sedans I would start the search at Lexus and see if the headroom in other offerings is enough to offset a big relaibility deficit.

I'm only 6'3" but I do love my 7-Series BMW.
You could also check into a used Audi A8, or maybe an S Class Mercedes.

Definitely do not buy a Jeep Wrangler.

Honestly, your best bet is going to be a regular pickup. There are just concessions you have to make when you are able to pick items off the top shelf in the grocery store.

My brother tried to let me drive his Subaru BRZ and I couldn't even get into the driver's seat.

I appreciate the helpful answers - hollywood & fixer - it seems like every online source has a different list, so I was hopeful a real-person expert might offer something better. Thank you.

Yeah, I wouldn't use online ratings for anything more than a starting point of where to look.

It's got to be your butt in the seat.

At 6'8", I'm sure somebody stuck a basketball in your hands at some point along the way. I know somebody suggested finding out what Shaq drives but that's not a bad suggestion.

I never really thought I was tall until I moved to Australia where they're all 5'10".

You might check into what the Dutch people drive.

I do remember a few years back when Mini had 6'10" baseball pitcher Randy Johnson doing ads for them.

Someone once gifted me an old VW ad of WIlt Chamberlain trying to get in a VW Beetle that I had in my office for decades.

Actually it was an easy Google search. Great ad campaign.

As a fellow 'tall' person (6'6"), my first question is where are you tall? Torso or legs? I'm more legs than torso, so cars can be difficult.

But my wife's 2013 Fusion actually let's me stretch my legs out if I put the seat all the way back.

Might look into that, used Fusion.

I was thinking the same. I'm also 6'6, but with a longer torso, and can fit into most "normal" cars relatively comfortably.

OP - what your price range? Do you want new or used? Any brands you want to avoid? Do you want something fun/sporty or utilitarian?

I went looking for the Randy Johnson Mini ad.
I knew it had the insufferable women's soccer player in it but I didn't realize there were so many other celebs in it.

I have two son-in-laws that are that tall. One drives a Kia SUV and a Ford Edge, the other drives a Subaru Forester and a Ford Edge.
So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced. It removes force from the equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

So... no sedans

Sounds like Ford Edge is a winner

My observations from the sports world are that the big guys (OL/DL) overwhelmingly choose the BMW 7 series. The merc s class and the A8L were distant but present players as well. BMW on the pre owned side are a considerable bargain relative to the Mercedes, even the CPO models.

Long torso though... Which I never really noticed until flying economy class and my head and shoulders are above the seat.

Plus, this comment made my day so, I'm good on this thread.

I'm 6-3. We've had a wide variety of sedans, SUVs, minivans, and sports cars. The vehicle that had the most legroom for me was a 2017 Chevy Impala.

I'm 6' 4". In economy, my knees are in the kidneys of the person in front of me.

I can fit in a 911 easily. There isn't much headroom in a Ferrari 488, however.

Remember, you're not tall unless you're over 6'4".

That's the rule.

Average tall people are 6'6". You're "really tall" when you break 6'10".

My first roommate at A&M was 6' 7". He drove a 1984 Z28. He was able to move to the dorm with a full sized drafting table, mini-fridge, carpet, and his other possessions, all in the Z28.
