Of those opposed to lane splitting, you never speed or camp in the passing lane, right?

Is it different?

When I'm in car/truck mode, this is my biggest pet peeve!! I hate the left lane "campers" and would LOVE to see DPS pulling these a-holes over and ticketing them for not yielding to faster traffic.

So the guy in the left lane doing the speed limit should move over and let the guy doing 10 over go through? Camping in the left lane is a crime but doing 10 over the limit is not. That's kind of a "the rules are for thee and not for me" attitude isn't it?

Yes. Get the hell out of the way. I never understood while this is such a hard concept.

If you're not passing get out of the left lane. If you are passing and there's someone coming up behind you that's going faster get out of the left lane as soon as it's safe to do so. If you want to continue passing after they move on through then feel free to enjoy the left lane again.

I'm convinced left lane police are probably miserable people all the time.

So if I'm in the left lane doing the speed limit and passing people in the right lane that are going slower, I'm supposed to slow down and move over into the right lane with them so you can pass me while you cruise at 75?

Not necessarily. But if you can move over without slowing down while letting the faster traffic pass then get back over, cool. Me personally, I always yield to faster traffic.

I find the main offenders of being a left lane camper are semis (can't wait for auto driving semis doing interstate runs over night) and old white guys in F250s that seem to have a I don't give a damn about anyone else mentality.

Careful, we've already established Ol_Ag_02 road rages when he's inconvenienced in traffic.

I don't road rage in traffic. But I will say that my Dad taught not inconvenience others at my own behest.

So no, not a big fan of lane splitters l and left lane campers. Selfish people.

Yes, the left lane is for passing.

Lane splitting at speed and camping in the left lane are much bigger safety issues than 10 over in a free-flowing left lane.

But the 10 over is not against the law also? So you think the traffic laws shouldn't apply to speeders as long as there is no officer around to enforce them but they do apply to those folks in the left lane doing the speed limit?

The traffic laws should apply to all violators! If you are caught speeding, you should get a ticket! If you are caught not yielding to faster traffic while in the left lane, you should get a ticket.

I was working today in Medellin, Colombia.

You can't even describe what happens here as lane splitting. It's mostly just motorcycle and scooter insanity everywhere, all the time, even in the rain.

Granted, we're not doing American highway speeds but, probably 30-40 mph frequently with motorcycles just going for it.

It's dangerous, stupid, and appropriately illegal. I won't wish for one to get taken out, but if it happens, it will get a darwinian shoulder shrug from me.

Another question would be, if I change lanes on the road and dont notice a bike coming up behind me lane splitting and he runs into my car, who is at fault?

What difference does it make if there's a bike lane-splitting vs a bike properly within the next lane? If you don't properly check behind you for any vehicles (or literally anything) coming up behind you before you make a turn, then it's fairly obvious you're the one at fault.
