Saw another poster use this title for an old vehicle purchase and thought it was very fitting for my situation.

I've been itching for another Jeep project after selling my 1989 Wrangler several years ago. Found what was the cheapest YJ on Facebook marketplace and went to take a look at it. 1992 YJ that had been a deer lease rig for the last seven years or so. No rust being a Texas jeep and was mechanically sound after the previous owner had done some work on the transmission and a few other items. Got him to knock off even more $ and I couldn't pass it up. No title so I knew what I was getting myself into here.

My main goal was to make certain all necessary maintenance was performed to make certain it would be mechanically sound and then to clean it up a bit to make it comfortable to drive. I'm not looking for a trail rig or a complete restoration, just something fun to drive around the country and into town to get parts or such.

Two months later, it's looking much better. I plan on body and paint work in a couple of years as I want to get some good use out of it for the short term. Working on bonded title now and hope to have it done and registered prior to the end of July.

4.0?

2.5

That's what I had in my previous YJ so I'm well aware of its limitations.

I have a 92 also but with the 4.0/auto. It's built up for crawling but my neighbor down the street has an 89 for sale for $5500. It's a 2.5 and otherwise not clean enough for that asking price

Always keeping my eye open for a clean cruiser YJ with a manual.

The only rust on mine is below the windshield. Yours looks pretty good.

You really went to town on that interior! It looks great, Canyon!

Thanks. I wanted to make sure it was clean and comfortable enough that my wife would enjoy riding around in it. I've got some more work to finish installing the remainder of the carpet kit .

Headlights will be changed out soon, as well. The LEDs put out great light but are ugly as sin, at least in my opinion. I cringe every time I glance at them along with the fenders and grille but my level of OCD is probably not normal!

I bought new seats for the jeep as what was in there when I bought it was quite uncomfortable. Cash from selling the two black vinyl seats along with the elevated seats on the platform paid for my new seats so not a bad deal at all. Bestop Trailmax II seats are the brand/model of the new front seats. Got the matching rear fold and tumble seat, as well.

Did you replace the door panels & dash or just clean & paint them?

Dash pad, dash instrument panels, and door panels were lightly sanded then cleaned before using SEM paint. This stuff has been pretty impressive as it holds us pretty well. I was expecting some wear on the door panels but nothing yet.

Puttin' in work, Canyon! Knowledge me on the paint job process you went with please. It definitely doesn't look like a Maaco spray job...

I really dig that black w/ gold pinstripe (former Purdue student in me). It's a great looking POS for sure ; )

Only items painted were the interior parts noted above. Given that I've got some body work to tackle in the future, I spent serious effort on buffing. I wouldn't call it paint correction as I just wanted to shine it up a good bit. I'm colorblind and initially thought the Jeep was a dark blue color when I bought it.

Graphics kit is a decal set that included the pinstripes, wrangler decals on the rear fenders, and jeep decals on the lower sides. I know I'll have to replace all of it when I do body and paint work in the future but not a big concern to me as it was pretty simple. Decals sure changed up the appearance to match the interior color.

Wow! It looked blue to me as well in the first picture. That graphics kit makes a world of difference. Great work bringing that paint back to life!

Dumb question. Isn't the AC a 3rd party add-on in 1992?

I think you're right. Jeep Air, if I am correct. They still make systems and I was able to order new ac/heat vents from their website.
