This literally just happened, so I don't have all the details, but I've never had anything like this happen before and could use some input.

My son was just driving his 2017 Infiniti QX50 when the entire car went completely dead - engine cut off, all the lights on the dash came on, and the radio was making a rapid clicking noise.

A few seconds passed and the car started operating normally. He drove it to the nearest parking lot and pulled over. When he turned the car off and tried to turn it back on, it would not start. Complete silence.

He got out of the car and checked the battery connections - they are fine. He happened to pull over at an Auto Zone, and they confirmed the battery is fully functional.

He is driving it to a mechanics shop right now, but what the heck just happened? I know Infinitis/Nissans tend to have electrical problems, but this was pretty extreme.

Has this happened to anyone else? What was the problem/solution?

Mechanic seems to think he just has a really loose battery terminal. I told my son to check that when he pulled over (because that's what Google said to do), but I guess he didn't.

Mechanic could not get it to tighten all the way, though, so they want to take it out of the battery housing and check it more thoroughly. They will do that tomorrow, since they are closing now.

I sure hope that's all it is. But if anyone else has had a similar issue, I'd still be interested in hearing about it.

Follow up: mechanic confirmed that it was just the battery. He said it was not installed correctly at all. My son said he had it put in originally about a year ago at Auto Zone.

So, lesson learned, if you have a battery installed at Auto Zone or similar, next time your car is in for an oil change or other work, have a mechanic check the installation.
