A Costco moved in less than a mile from my house a couple years ago. We have our Costco runs down to a science.
It's easy to get distracted by all they offer, even the "healthy" stuff adds up quickly. I have a house full of boys for kids and learned real quick that stuff is devoured quickly and never felt like it was super worth it.
If I'm on my game in terms of good healthy decisions and value buys at Costco it really boils down to a couple things.
1. Get a vacuum sealer. Buying meat in bulk is key. Getting it separated and stored is a must and easy to do with a vacuum sealer
2. Buy your protein (meat) in bulk. Every time I go I'm buying ground beef, steaks, chicken and turkey of some type. Then if needed, mostly on the beef, I use my sealer and separate out the bulk packaging into smaller units. I know about how many pounds it takes to feed my family so I separate it into that amount. Then I just freeze it until I need it.
2. Fruits. There are 3 or 4 fruits my kids eat well. I buy a lot. We go through most of it. At times we waste it but u still think it's worth it.
3. Eggs. I eat eggs most every morning. I stock up every time I go.
4. Household needs. Paper towels, toilet paper, bottled water etc.
After this, a few of those "healthy" snacks always make it in my cart. Chomps beef sticks, some mediocre protein bar does seem to be the latest trend. I mostly do this to keep the peace. The are gone quickly so like i said, never feel like I get my moneys worth.
